The National Weather Service expects that we will experience multiple thunderstorms over the next 48 hours, starting this evening April 15, 2024.

Storms are possible tonight across a boundary extending from northwest Missouri through Columbia after sunset. Some of these storms could contain damaging winds and large hail.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, thunderstorms will move across Kansas and be in Missouri by sunrise. Storms will move eastward through the morning. Further storm development may occur and storms may intensify over north central Missouri during the afternoon. The National Weather Service says this will depend on Tuesday morning's activity.

Note that much of Kansas City, Lee's Summit, Warrensburg, Sedalia, Clinton, and Osage Beach may not get tonight's storms or we could find ourselves on the edges of it. Most of West Central Missouri will experience the storms tomorrow morning, while those towns west of Sedalia may not get much of the storm activity predicted for tomorrow afternoon. You can check out the timing of the storms here.

Tuesday's storms seem to be what the National Weather Service is more worried about. Tuesday's storms could bring large hail, damaging winds, locally heavy rainfall, and even an isolated tornado. Much of West Central Missouri has a 15 to 30 percent chance of severe hail, and a 10 percent chance of hail being 2 inches in diameter. Most of West Central Missouri has a 5 to 9 percent chance of a tornado, with towns like Moberly, Mexico, Hannibal and Quincy, Illinois having a 10 to 14 percent chance of a tornado along with a 10 percent chance that tornado will be EF2-EF5. You can learn more about the Enhanced Fujita Scale of tornados here.

You should review your severe weather action plan with your family and have multiple ways of receiving weather information. Mix 92.3, Kix 105.7, and KSIS 1050 will air weather warnings and break-ins from our meteorologist at Weatherology should the weather warrant it.

No More Movies: Check Out This Abandoned Theater

WARNING: Under no circumstances should you enter this property. By doing so you risk bodily harm and/or prosecution for trespassing on private property.

These cinemas near Kansas City, Missouri opened in December 1986 as part of the Dickinson Cinema chain and closed as part of the independent Globe Cinema Group 28 years later. It's part of a strip mall that's died along with a lot of surrounding area which is ripe for redevelopment. Cinema Treasures noted that for a multiplex it had a very well-done facade. This is somewhat different for me than most of these galleries because I did see a movie at this theater in the summer of 1992 when I took my first solo road trip to Kansas City.
