Although the tale (as old as tiiiime) of Beauty and the Beast is a self-contained one with no existing basis for continuation, that hasn’t stopped Disney from considering the possibilities of a follow-up to their recent live-action reimagining — especially now that it’s earned over $1 billion at the box office, breaking a previous record held by the seemingly untouchable Star Wars. But while Disney has been mulling a potential spinoff or prequel, Emma Watson would rather see a direct sequel, and she’s already come up with a good starting point.
Patty Jenkins came this close to directing Thor: The Dark World before parting ways with Marvel over “creative differences.” But whatever problems she encountered with Marvel weren’t an issue at Warner Bros., who hired Jenkins to helm this summer’s Wonder Woman — which marks the director’s first feature film project since her acclaimed 2002 debut Monster. It seems that Jenkins’ skills have impressed more than just the folks at WB because Dwayne Johnson is singing her praises as well, and he wants her to direct one of his upcoming blockbuster projects.
