There are a lot of great gospel songs and rock songs about the Good Lord and religion. So today on this Sunday, let's travel back to 1969 to Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky.

This song made it to #3 in the United States Billboard charts, but is considered one of the great one-hit wonders of the 1960s.

The song was covered by several other musicians, including Elton John, but nobody could duplicate the guitar sound.

It is hard to believe that Greenbaum claimed this song was written in about 15 minutes. That's about 10 more minutes than the length of the song.

Earlier this year, Greenbaum was involved in a serious accident and more of his story was shared through Ultimate Classic Rock. Greenbaum has been recovering from the injury and trauma of the accident, but is back home again.

Do you have a favorite rock song about God, Jesus or religion. Let us know and you may find it on the Sunday version of A Look Back With Doug.
