‘Young Frankenstein’ Will Light Up the SFCC Theater Arts Stage [INTERVIEW]

The State Fair Community College Theater Arts program has taken on their biggest musical to date with the Mel Brooks show, “Young Frankenstein.” This monster musical comedy is based on the Oscar-nominated smash-hit 1974 film of the same name written by Brooks and Gene Wilder and is a parody of the horror film genre and especially the 1931 adaption of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.”

The story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that’s Fronkensteen) as he attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his helper Igor (that’s Eye-gor), his lab assistant Inga and in spite of his madcap fiancée Elizabeth, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster but not without scary and quite often hilarious complications.

I had several cast members and the director, Eric Yazell, in the studio to tell us about the show, how to get your tickets and about the big dinner theater they’ll be hosting. I had to edit down our talk on the air, but this one is the full version, complete with a little goofing off at the beginning.

With such memorable tunes as “The Transylvania Mania,” “He Vas My Boyfriend” and Irving Berlin’s classic “Puttin’ on the Ritz,” Mel Brooks’ musical is scientifically-proven, monstrously good entertainment!  Get your tickets now by calling the box office at (660) 596-7387 from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and two hours prior to the performance, email tickets@sfccmo.edu., or purchase tickets online. The show runs from April 23 through April 27, and you don’t wanna miss this one!

Frankenstein-ly yours,
Behka
