“James Franco doing a movie about the creation of legendary disasterpiece The Room” was a tantalizing prospect when first announced, either a brilliant turn for his career-spanning preoccupation with artifice in showbiz or another insufferable bout of navel-gazing. The first trailer for the comedy due December 1 (before going wide on December 8) isn’t really either, landing somewhere closer to Hail, Caesar! in its farcical send-up of filmmaking frustration. 2017 has gotten its “Would that it t’were so simple,” now say it with me: “I did not hit her, it’s not true, it’s bullsh*t, I did not hit her, I did not. Oh hi, Mark.”

These days, we take our amusement where we can. For the past week, the internet has been entranced by the disaster that is the Frye Festival, a supposed music festival for rich millennials that quickly descended into anarchy when musicians and vendors pulled out due to its unsafe conditions. The full scope of the festival’s failure was laid bare in Friday’s piece at New York Magazine, where one administrator  —  or former admin, since she dropped as soon as she realized the full scope of the organizers’ failure  —  spoke candidly about the missteps leading up to the festival. For entertainment value, the Frye Festival just can’t be beat.

To date, only one R-rated animated film has ever been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film at the Oscars: Anomalisa, Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson’s acclaimed 2015 drama. If execs at Sony Pictures get their way, Sausage Party will become the second R-rated animated film to receive that honor — and according to Sony chief Tom Rothman, they may very well win.

‘The Night Before’ Trailer: Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt Have a Very Raunchy Christmas
There is a lot to love in the new red band trailer for The Night Before, which feels like someone took a long look at the career of Seth Rogen thus far, selected everything about his work that people enjoy, and assembled it into one crazy package. This trailer has everything you’d come to expect from a Seth Rogen movie in the year 2015: drugs jokes, fear-of-growing-up jokes, bromance jokes, relationship jokes, unexpected sentimentality, and, of course, a cast that includes a whole bunch of people you really like.
