Boy, that Apple wasn’t kidding about their entry into the TV business. Atop high-profile projects from Reese Witherspoon and Steven Spielberg, the tech giant has now booked SNL alum Kristen Wiig for a new ten-episode comedy with Witherspoon producing.
Our dream of a MacGruber reunion lives on. After a few scant Last Man on Earth Season 3 guest spots, Kristen Wiig will rejoin Will Forte with an extended role in the fourth season, along with SNL and Letterman alum Chris Elliott.
It’s only taken sixteen years, but Wet Hot American Summer is finally taking us Ten Years Later. The whole Camp Firewood gang is back for the Netflix sequel series trailer, which now sets an August premiere.
Last year’s Ghostbusters reboot was supposed to be the start of an entire new franchise (or perhaps even a universe of franchises) around the venerable ’80s horror comedy. Sony Pictures, which owns the rights to bust ghosts on the big screen, even created this new production company, Ghost Corps, to lead the charge on all these various efforts. There was talk of an all-male Ghostbusters to accompany the all-female team we got from director Paul Feig. And a new cartoon series was put into development as well. But since the movie opened to just so-so reviews and box office last year, developments on this front have been as quiet as Spook Central after a total protonic reversal.
There’s no one way to conclude stories set after the world’s end, but The Last Man on Earth certainly can’t leave us on Season 3’s finale cliffhanger. Season 4 is not yet confirmed, but creator and star Will Forte is at least optimistic SNL chum Kristen Wiig will get to reprise her major appearance next year.
Richard Linklater is about to get behind the camera again this year to film Where’d You Go, Bernadette?, an adaptation of a 2012 bestselling novel about a restless Seattle housewife who becomes a recluse and disappears right before a big family vacation, prompting her husband and daughter to go looking for her. Cate Blanchett will play Bernadette, and today it was announced that Kristen Wiig is in talks to play Audrey, Bernadette’s nightmare neighbor.
We still don’t know if SNL and MacGruber pals Kristen Wiig and Will Forte will ever reunite for that MacGruber sequel, but FOX’s The Last Man on Earth will nonetheless get the two back onscreen. See for yourself, as a new Last Man promo for March reveals Wiig’s mysterious character, and apparent affinity for the ‘80s.
Near of the world’s entire population dies of a virus, and The Last Man on Earth still manages to run into celebrity after celebrity. The latest offers another SNL (and MacGruber!) reunion, as Kristen Wiig will appear on Last Man in a top-secret role later in Season 3.
Hollywood might be bringing back the movie musical for real. After the thrilling success of La La Land, which is now in theaters and a serious awards contender, studios are scouring their contacts lists for those triple threats who can act, sing, and tap dance their way through a script. Today, Saturday Night Live alumni Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig have signed on to a musical project from the producer of La La Land and the songwriters behind the Broadway version of Hairspray, adapted from the book Everything is Coming Up Profits.
