Well, it’s official. Whether the world is prepared for it or not, James Cameron and co. are going to start production on Avatar 2 this fall. New ‘Avatar’ Land Videos Take You on a Lazy River Ride Through Pandora’s Glowing Rainforests

With Avatar 2 delayed yet again, it’s starting to sound like we’ll never see James Cameron’s much-hyped return to Pandora and his tribe of blue aliens. That is, unless you can grab yourselves some tickets to Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom and hop onto their new “Pandora — The World of Avatar” ride. The concept has been teased for months, and today we get our first look inside at all the magic, and, honestly, it looks pretty incredible.

‘Avatar 2’ Bumped From 2018 Release, Upsetting Fragile ‘Avatar’ Economy

The Avatar franchise has turned into James Cameron’s Xanadu, a vanity project of staggering scale to which the public will seemingly never be permitted access. It’s kept him busy since 2009, as he’s concurrently scripted a whopping four sequels to the immensely lucrative 2009 sci-fi epic. Perhaps, one day, it shall be his tomb. But to us unwashed rabble in the general populace, the grand Avatar franchise is little more than an idea, and a weird idea at that. As our beloved Editor-in-Chief Matt Singer noted not too long ago, pretty much everybody has moved on from Avatar as a cultural touchstone. Cameron seems more jazzed about this plan than anyone else, but he’ll have to put his dreams on hold for a little while longer.

James Cameron’s ‘Terminator 2’ 3D Re-Release Will Hit Theaters in August

In a piece of news bound to make you say, “Wait, is this still a thing?”, it looks like we’ll still be getting that Terminator 2 3D conversion after all. Scroll back through our archives and you’ll find our very first mention of the Terminator 2 re-release in December of 2015. Back then, word was that James Cameron and company would time the theatrical re-release of the film to its 25th anniversary on July 3. For one reason or another, though, the studio missed that window, and thousands of people around the world were only able to relive their love of the Terminator franchise in the same boring two dimensions they’d always had. Sad.

Now That He Finished the Script for ‘Avatar 5’ James Cameron Can Begin Shooting ‘Avatar 2’

Why is it that James Cameron’s updates about progress on his colossal plotted Avatar franchise always kind of sound like threats?

In a brash nose-thumbing to the concept of economic bubbles, James Cameron went all in on his Avatar franchise gambit and decided to produce the next four films in the planned pentalogy concurrently...

James Cameron Disagrees with ‘Mythbusters,’ Defends the ‘Titanic’ Ending

It’s a debate as old as time. Or at least as old as James Cameron’s Titanic, which came out in 1997, so not that old, but still. “They both could have fit on that door!” is the rallying cry of Titanic truthers, who believe that the door (which isn’t actually a door (it’s ajar! just kidding)) that Rose (Kate Winslet) floats on while Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) freezes to death in the subzero waters of the North Atlantic was big enough to hold both of them. Mythbusters even dedicated an episode to it. But Cameron himself is still holding fast to the movie’s original ending, much like Jack’s hands after they froze.

James Cameron Has Some Thoughts About the Current State of the ‘Alien’ Franchise

Alien: Covenant will be the sixth Alien film released since Ridley Scott’s original 1979 movie (or eighth, if you count both Alien vs. Predator movies), and as such is the continuation of one of the longest-running franchises in film history. James Cameron, director of Aliens, recently spoke about his feelings on the series and revealed that he thinks it may have gone too far, although he does clarify that he’s down for whatever Ridley Scott wants to do.

James Cameron Is Taking Back the Reigns of the ‘Terminator’ Franchise

With James Cameron caught in an endless loop of Avatar rumors and delays, it’s become fashionable for some fans to treat the director like a Hollywood has-been. I don’t get it. Even if you think the original Avatar is a hollow mess of special effects, it’s still a fun entry in Cameron’s ‘Soldiers vs. Monsters’ filmography. Are we so awash in incredible action directors that we can afford to dismiss Cameron’s eye for spectacle and clean action scenes? I think not.

Visit Pandora With a New Behind-the-Scenes Look at Disney’s ‘Avatar’ Theme Park

Not content merely to conquer our existing world, James Cameron figured he’d build one of his own. This summer, Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando will cut the ribbon on “Pandora — the World of AVATAR,” a new attraction replicating the lush world from Cameron’s immensely profitable 2009 sci-fi film. The director, producer, and heads of construction for the developing theme park all appeared in a new behind-the-scenes video preview that gives prospective viewers an eyeful of what the creator claim to be the most technologically sophisticated amusement at Disney, if not in the world.

Sigourney Weaver Says ‘Avatar’ Sequel Scripts Are ‘Amazing’ in Scope

Sigourney Weaver is something of a sci-fi movie icon. Since her performance in Alien, she’s made a ton of appearances in all kinds of movies about the weird and the wonderful, from The Cabin in the Woods to WALL-E to a brief but not unwelcome scene in this summer’s Ghostbusters. She was also one of the best parts of James Cameron’s Avatar, playing Dr. Grace Augustine, one of the scientists in the Avatar Program who started a research program to learn more about the planet Pandora and its inhabitants. She’s read the scripts for Cameron’s planned sequels, and, according to her, they’re “amazing.”
