The nominations are in for the 2017 Emmy Awards and there’s just as much to celebrate as there is to be disappointed about. The 2016-2017 TV season was a huge year for the small screen, reaching the peak-iest of peak TV. It was full of more new series than you could keep track of, diverse casts, and many groundbreaking episodes in both the comedy and drama departments. A brief scan of the major categories may leave you feeling a little bummed over the nominations, with many of the usual suspecting making the cut yet again – can the Emmys even exist without Modern Family or Julia Louis-Dreyfus nods at this point? And critical and fan favorites like The Leftovers, Girls, and Legion were nowhere to be seen in the top categories.

It’s a brave new world for the 2017 Emmy awards with Game of Thrones and others sitting this year out. The big announcement is finally here, as presented by Veep star Anna Chlumsky and Criminal Minds veteran Shemar Moore, so let’s find out what we’re all angry about/celebrating this year at the Emmys!

Since Dennis Miller hosted the very first MTV Movie Awards back in 1992, the music channel’s annual award ceremony has been something of a fun dalliance into a world where the artistic merit of a movie is less important than its popular clout. This year marks a couple of big changes for the format: not only did the award show change its official name  —  it is now known as the MTV Movie & TV Awards  —  it also has become arguably the most inclusive award show to date, honoring titles like Moonlight, Get Out, and Jane the Virgin alongside its stalwart categories like Best Kiss and Best Villain.

FX is certainly riding high after their Emmy wins Sunday night, and the success of their newest comedies could bring more. As such, Donald Glover’s breakout hip-hop dramedy Atlanta will return for Season 2, along with Pamela Adlon’s Better Things.

Even as former Community star Donald Glover graced FX with his presence at the TCA press tour panel, most Atlanta promos have cryptically placed the cast in a backwards scenario. At long last, Ernest “Earn” Marks steps forth with a formal trailer for the Twin Peaks-style series, making Donald Glover a family man.

It was hard to get a read on Donald Glover in his Community exit, as the increasingly-esoteric star seemed to lean more toward his Childish Gambino career at the time. Now, as Glover heads back to TV for FX’s Atlanta, the erstwhile Troy Barnes says it’s good that his Community time came to an end, just like Donald Trump will. Look, it got dark.
