The State Fair Community College Apprenticeship Program recently presented Lee Newell of Edwards, the United States Department of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship, Journeyman Certificate in Precision Machining.

The certificate presentation occurred at Burr King in Warsaw. Among those present was Burr King, Plant Manager Keith Daleen and SFCC Apprenticeship Program Director Lori Blalock. An apprentice in Precision Machining is a three-year apprenticeship with 6000 hours of on-the-job training to achieve journeyman status.

Apprenticeship programs are for people of all ages who want to earn a salary while they learn and gain direct job skills. These programs offer employers the ability to strengthen and build their workforce and provide a tailored, high-quality talent pipeline.

SFCC currently offers the following registered apprenticeship programs: Industrial Electrical Maintenance, Precision Machining, Welding, Engineering Design Technology, Construction Management, Robotics and Automation Tech, Millwright, Commercial Driver’s License, First-Line Supervisor, and Digital Media Marketing.

Anyone with experience in these technical careers and is interested in teaching full- or part-time at SFCC is encouraged to apply at SFCC at www.sfccmo.edu/jobs. No previous teaching experience is required. SFCC will work with eligible candidates who want to learn how to pass along their skills, knowledge and work experiences to students who are pursuing certificates or degrees in technical careers.

Funding for SFCC’s Apprenticeship program is provided by a MoAMP (Missouri Apprenticeship in Manufacturing Program) grant from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration.

For more information on how to enroll in the program as a student or employer, contact Blalock at (660) 596-7135, email apprenticeships@sfccmo.edu or visit www.sfccmo.edu/apprenticeships.
