Scanlon Returns as S-C Boys Basketball Head Coach
In closed session Monday night, the Sedalia School District 200 Board of Education approved the hiring of Brennan Scanlon as Smith-Cotton High School boys basketball head coach.
Scanlon was the Tigers head coach from 2014-16, when he led S-C to its first boys basketball conference title in 19 years.
Scanlon returns to S-C, where he had a record of 34-17 with two West Central Conference titles, after serving as head coach at Oak Park High School in the North Kansas City School District. Scanlon graduated from Central Methodist University in Fayette in May 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education.
Before his first tenure at Smith-Cotton, he was head basketball coach at Mexico High School and Elsberry High School; he also had served as an assistant basketball coach at Rock Bridge High School, Fayette High School and CMU. In 2012, he was inducted into the Rock Bridge Athletic Hall of Fame, and during his playing career he was a USA Today High School Basketball All American (1996 and ‘97) and a McDonald’s High School Basketball All American (1997).
Smith-Cotton Activities Director Kyle Middleton said, “We are very excited to have Coach Scanlon return to our school district and athletic department. His coaching experience and basketball knowledge will benefit our student-athletes as we set a positive direction for Smith-Cotton basketball.”
Scanlon said, “My family and I look forward to being back in the Sedalia community and building a basketball program that the kids, school, and community can be proud of. I look forward to meeting all of the players - it’s time to get to work. Let’s go, Tigers!”
