Full Moon, Mercury Retrograde, Messing With The Chiefs?

So last night after getting home from my first Chiefs game and pondering the disappointing play of the team I looked up and noticed what looked like a full moon. I wondered to myself, could the full moon be messing up the Chiefs? I mean, are they really this mediocre, or is something else messing up their mojo?

Sadly, I wish I could say it was the full moon or an almost full moon messing up the team. However, last night's game and the October 29th loss to the Broncos in Denver were the only two games where the moon was full, or pretty close to a full moon. So, no, I guess we can't say the weirdness of full moon periods are messing the team up.

Then I thought, could Mercury Retrograde be messing with the Chiefs? Well if the Patrick Mahomes Andry Reid brain trust wants to blame a couple of the losses on Mercury Retrograde, they can blame a couple on that.

If you're not familiar with Mercury Retrograde, Almanac.com says, "Three to four times a year, the planet Mercury appears to travel backward across the sky. We refer to these periods as times when Mercury is in apparent retrograde motion or simply ”Mercury retrograde.” For those who believe in astrology, these times are associated with confusion, delay, and frustration.

I'm not a big believer in Mercury Retrograde, but I'm looking for reasons, you know?

Unfortunately, for the Chiefs, they can only blame their September 7 loss against the Lions, and yesterday's loss vs. the Raiders as falling during Mercury Retrograde.

No, the truth is a lot simpler. They may not be as good as we all thought. So can the team right the ship and have a deep playoff run?

Well, the Bengals, who the Chiefs play on New Year's Eve at 3:25, lost last Saturday to the Steelers. They're 8-7, and last in the AFC North, however, if this current Chiefs team shows up, it's not a slam-dunk win. The Chargers look a little easier to beat with their 5-10 record, and their recent management/coaching change. They've also lost three games in a row.

Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good, and in my mind, when the Chiefs were piling up those six wins in a row in October and November, I thought we might be good and lucky. Yet, as the wins dried up, so did the luck. To get anywhere in the playoffs the Chiefs are going to have to play better and be lucky.

Otherwise, the Chiefs Mahomes-Reid dynasty seems to be dealing with "Chiefs Retrograde" this season.
