CASA Color Run 2024 Draws 84 Runners

It was sunny, but windy & chilly on Saturday morning for CASA's 5K Color Run on the Missouri State Fairgrounds.

The fourth annual event 84 drew runners, according to CASA Director of Development Julie Hoefert.

About 20 volunteers provided people power for the April 6 event.

The two main sponsors for the 5K were Nucor and Van Natta Fabrication. Many other prize sponsors and color station sponsors also contributed to the success of the 5K color run, Hoefert noted.

Lori Haney, executive director for CASA, said that she was really excited to see the community's support for CASA fund-raisers. She credited Hoefert with making that happen.

“That's also a testament to everyone at CASA, really raising awareness of domestic and sexual violence, and the problem that poses in our community, and our community stepping up to help us to try and end rape and abuse in the Sedalia and Pettis County area,” Haney told KSIS while recording runners' times.

Haney added that she is very grateful that so many runners are repeat supporters from previous events. “A lot of our Crossfit community comes out, including the Sedalia School district and others,” she said.

Smith-Cotton Junior and Senior High School cheerleaders loudly cheered on runners as they began the event and crossed over the finish line upon their return from the course that winded its way through the fairgrounds. Each runner was doused at various “color stations” with a colorful non-toxic powder that stuck to their clothes, including a souvenir event T-shirt.

The 3rd annual CASA Art Show drew 42 entries, and that was on display inside the Mathewson Exhibition Center, where the annual Home & Garden Show was taking place from 9 to 5 Saturday.
