Bizarro Back Issues: Mills And Armstrong’s Moonchild Has… The Power! (1978)
Moonchild was one of the strips that ran in Misty, which was originally conceived by Mills as a sister title for 2000 AD, complementing the sci-fi directed primarily at boys with supernatural spookiness aimed at girls. Unfortunately, Misty wasn't as successful, and was later merged with a similar title, Tammy, before finally getting the axe in the mid-'80s.
The good news, though, is that thirty years after its last issue, Misty finally saw a reprint this year, and while its take on the popular horror of the day isn't quite as over-the-top as, say, Judge Dredd's take on America as a concept, it's still well worth checking out.
Ask Chris #308: Silent Interlude
Q: What makes a good silent issue? -- @XavierFiles
A: Listen: I don't know if you meant for me to interpret this question as, "Can you talk about GI Joe #21 for a couple thousand words," but I do think we all knew that was exactly what was going to happen.
‘X-O Manowar’ Comes To A Thundering End With A 64-Page Final Issue [Preview]
For the past five years, XO Manowar has been Valiant's flagship title, but now the story of Aric of Dacia, a barbarian plucked from the fringes of the Roman empire and returned to Earth with an alien battle-suit that might be the single most powerful weapon in the galaxy, is coming to a close. And given that high concept, you can probably guess that it's not going to be a quiet ending.
When the final issue hits shelves next week, it's coming with 64 pages of story and a truly overwhelming number of variant covers --- including a Ninjak story from Jody Houser and Javier Pulido that looks fantastic. Check it out with a preview below!
‘Regular Show’ To End After Eight Seasons, After Going To Outer Space
The good news is that this Regular Show is heading into outer space when it returns to Cartoon Network for its eighth season on September 26. In "One Space at a Time," the Park and its groundskeeping staff have been blasted off from Earth, and they're going to be staying there for the rest of the season. The bad news, though, is that this is all building to the end of Regular Show. Season Eight will culminate in the series finale.
Hey! Ho! Let’s Go To Riverdale In ‘Archie Meets Ramones’ #1 [Preview]
All things considered, Archie Andrews has met an awful lot of famous people. Michael Strahan, Barack Obama, KISS, the Sharknado, they've all made a stop in Riverdale at one time or another. But with Archie Meets Ramones, there's a bit of a problem that's kind of hard to get past. I mean, I don't want to get too dark when I'm talking about a book that's ostensibly for kids --- albeit that small but amazing segment of kids that are into both Archie Comics and '70s punk rock --- but if you want the gang to hang out with the band's original lineup here in 2016, it's going to be a little difficult.
Unless, of course, you have a magic record from Sabrina the Teenage Witch's surprisingly vast vinyl archives. If that's that's the case, then it's as easy as dropping the needle. Check out a preview below!
I Can Do That, I Write Batman: Tom King On ‘I Am Gotham’ And The Future Of ‘Batman’
Tom King and David Finch's relaunch of Batman might be the most interesting and unexpected comic book of DC's Rebirth. Released biweekly, the opening arc told the story of a pair of new heroes, Gotham and Gotham Girl, who arrived in Batman's hometown with powers far beyond those of mortal men, and with hopes of permanently changing things for the better. And as you already know if you've read those first five issues, it did not go so well.
Now, with an epilogue to "I Am Gotham" set to hit shelves next week, ComicsAlliance spoke to Tom King about the villains he's bringing back to the spotlight, the reasons behind the final fate of Gotham and Gotham Girl, and why Colonel Blimp was there all along --- and we just didn't see him.
Bizarro Back Issues: Badger, Bruce Lee, And Elvis (1990)
Badger is a very weird comic, and it's weird in a way that's such a product of its time that the best way to read it may be to just pick up whatever back issue you see and read it in complete isolation from the rest of the series. Which is how I got the one where the Badger teams up with Elvis to fight Bruce Lee.
A Break From The Usual Skullduggery: John Ostrander On ‘Suicide Squad: War Crimes’ [Interview]
Now, with a Suicide Squad movie in theaters and the team more prominent than ever in comics, Ostrander is returning to the Squad for War Crimes, a one-shot that pits everyone's favorite villains against a team of heroes on the wrong side of one of Amanda Waller's plans.
To find out more, ComicsAlliance spoke to Ostrander about his long history with the Squad, his return to the franchise in 2007, and that one weird character he killed off towards the end.
Bizarro Back Issues: When You Want To Bring Down An International Terrorist, Send In the Archies! (1992) [Kids’ Comics]
The cast of the Archie titles are never too far from diving into something that goes far beyond the routine. They've been dropped into just about every weird genre there is, from soap opera drama to religious sermonizing to blood-soaked zombie horror. And then there was the time that the the regular core-universe Archie characters were hired by the government to go undercover and bring down a terrorist operation.
Wally West And Linda Park Are Back Together At Last In ‘Titans’ #2… Sort Of [Exclusive]
With the pre-New 52 Wally West back and (literally) running around the DC Universe, it was only a matter of time before he and Linda Park found each other once again. Now, we're finally getting there in the pages of next week's Titans #2. Sort of. Mostly. I mean, look, they meet each other again, and that's a start, right? Check out an exclusive preview!
