Last night was one of those nights where I stayed up late and watched a movie, I have not seen in a very long time, Last Action Hero. It was not exactly a movie that blew up the box office when it came out in 1993, but it was a great tongue in cheek movie that Arnold  Schwarzenegger did where he poked a little fun at himself, but yet put together a dream that many people have; to put themselves into the movie.

I have always loved the concept when Danny Madigan, played by Austin O'Brien is transported into the movie and the characters in the movie are unaware that their life is make believe. The good guys always win and the bad guys always lose. The story goes back in forth, but it provided one of the funniest scenes when Madigan starts to convince Jack Slater that he is a movie character.

Perhaps what I most remember about this movie is not anything from it, but it bombed in the box office and gained more popularity and 'B-Movie' status well after it came out. Why was that? Because, it came out the week before Jurassic Park and let's face it it, everyone wanted to see that. I find it odd that I watched it again the week before Jurassic World comes out.

One thing that I most loved about this movie was the acting of Lt. Dekker, the always yelling chief of Slater.

Lastly, the soundtrack was amazing, especially for you hard rock fans of AC/DC, Megadeth, Alice In Chains, Cypress Hill, Def Leppard and Tesla. Yes, I did just list two of the bands that are coming to the Missouri State Fair together. I guess somehow Styx got left off this soundtrack, but what are the chances of hearing Two Steps Behind and Last Action Hero on the Pepsi Grandstand together with an appearance by any of the actors in this movie. None the less, I hadn't seen this movie in probably ten years and it was fun to revisit this 1993 gem that often gets overlooked.
