I'm sure if you're on social media you've seen stuff from MLMs from time to time. You might be asking, what is an MLM?

Basically, an MLM  is something that stands for Multi Level Marketing. Here's the Wikipedia definition:

Marketing strategy where profit is theoretically derived from two revenue streams: from direct sales to customers and from commission based on the sales of recruited team members, also known as down line distributors. MLM salespeople are expected to sell products directly to consumers by means of relationship referrals and word of mouth marketing. They are also incentivized to recruit others to join the company as distributors.

You've probably heard or seen something like that. They've been around for years, if people weren't selling Amway they were selling Tupperware or something like it. But I swear, about one out of three of my friends on social media are selling something on the side. Most of the time it's makeup, or hair products, health products, home goods, or something to that effect. I won't list any company names, because I don't have to. You know what I'm talking about.

I can't keep up with all of them! There are literally dozens of these things, and they're all very insistent that you have to try their product. I guess they believe in what they're working with? I admire the dedication, but... I just can't. I just know how it would go. I would buy something from so and so, and then someone else would hear that I bought something from them, and they would ask why I didn't buy something from them. So then I'd feel bad, and I'd have to buy something from THEM, which would lead to someone ELSE talking to me about it. I just can't!

Maybe part of it  is oversaturation. It seems like I see something on Facebook every day from someone trying to get my attention about their product. I'm sure they mean well, but they might be doing more harm than good for their cause when it gets too much. So I just kinda have to shut the door on all of it, really.

Maybe I got a bad taste in my mouth from selling.  Maybe it's because I am... just not good at selling things. I know, I tried to sell cars for two years, it was a look that did not suit me.  Does that make me a fraidy cat?  A spoil sport? I don't know. I do know I got a little bit of a shock when an old friend from elementary school called me up out of the blue (we had fallen out of touch since college)............. to try to sell me something from her MLM. I offered to meet up for lunch sometime to catch up, but... she shut down that idea once I told her I wasn't interested in  her product. In fact, we haven't spoken since then, either.

I even had a boyfriend once who got involved in one. He had a great job, and still does well in his field, but dammit if he didn't try to sell me stuff. I didn't buy from him, either. That didn't turn out so good for our relationship, but we're friends now.

Your product may be great. It may have changed your life. It may have made you a billion dollars. I just can't do it.I just know......... I'm not buying anything from your MLM, sorry. I don't care how your car is decorated with their logo, I don't care that you look seventeen years younger, and I don't care that you post a new thing every day about how much money you're making.

I'm not hating on you, go for it all you want. I hope you succeed, I hope you change lives for the better, I hope you get everything you want out of life. Just know... it's not gonna be me.

Buyingly yours,
Behka
