The University of Central Missouri will be hosting their big evening coming up on January 21.  It's the Freedom Scholarship Dinner, which is a big part of their Dr Martin Luther King Celebration.

Labor economist, author and commentator Julianne Malveaux will be the keynote speaker for the University of Central Missouri’s annual Freedom Scholarship Dinner,  planned for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014. She is a contributor to publications such as “USA Today,” “Black Issues in Higher Education,” “Ms. Magazine,” “Essence Magazine” and “Progressive.” Her weekly column appeared from 1990 to 2003 in newspapers across the country, and she has edited several groundbreaking books on women, race and the state of the country, including “The Paradox of Loyalty” and “An African American Response to the War on Terror.” She also co-authored “Unfinished Business: A Democrat and Republican Take on the 10 Most Important Issues Women Face.”

The event is the highlight of the university’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.  Tickets for the Freedom Scholarship Dinner are available now. The Freedom Scholarship Dinner has funded 185 scholarships totaling more than $169,000 since its inception in 1998.

I spoke with one of the organizers of this event, Dr. Sharlene Bax, about what we can expect, tickets and other information.

Don't miss out on your chance to be a part of our future and get some great kids the education they need. Visit the university's website for more information on the UCM 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration.

Freely yours,
Behka
