92.3 BOB-FM has a new night show starting tonight (October 29)! Tony Lorino joins our on-air staff with Throwback Nation Radio, which will air each weeknight from 7-midnight. Call in with your requests at 1-855-685-LIVE (that’s 1-855-685-5483). We asked Tony to introduce himself to BOB-FM listeners by answering a few questions

How did you end up on the radio?

Growing up, I wanted to be a TV news anchor like Tom Brokaw or Peter Jennings, so naturally, I decided to go to college for broadcasting and journalism. But, when I went and worked as an intern in a TV news department, it felt so doom and gloom; no one was having ANY fun. (I’d say it is even MORE today than it was back then.) So, I decided to try apply at my college radio station instead, and fell in love with it. We get to connect with people about their favorite songs, their lives, and make their day – and that is a very rewarding feeling.

Who was your favorite person you’ve ever interviewed?

Several years back, I had a chance to have Mandy Moore (now UBER-famous on “This Is Us”) sit in as my co-host for a day when I was on the air in Wisconsin. It was after her first round of hit songs like “Candy,” but before her acting career had really taken off, so she was incredibly down to earth and VERY approachable. She even took phone calls from the audience and was super chill.

How about an interview that didn’t go as planned?

I’ve been pretty lucky that I’ve never had someone completely go rogue during an interview, but I was at an event once at a recording studio that was being hosted by Katy Perry. There were about 100 people crowded into a small little studio that was so well-done acoustically, that you could hear a pin drop from anywhere in the room… or in my case… hear a glass drop with a mixed drink in it. (Whoops.) It echoed so PERFECTLY that it caught everyone’s attention and she stared directly at me and called me out. What can I say…I’m a tad bit clumsy…and it happens! (HEY KATY! SORRY ABOUT THAT.)

Lightning round!

Most played song on your iPod?

Something embarrassing from the 90s that I will never admit!

The last picture you took on your phone is of?

My dogs, Max and Zoe. (I like to pretend that I’m in charge, but Zoe might actually run our house.)

TV show you always watch?

My wife and I are diehard “This Is Us” people right now. (See the “Mandy Moore” connection above.)

Favorite sports team?

THE CHIEFS… and the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Bucks!

Cats or dogs?

Dogs!

What else should listeners know about Tony Lorino?

I love connecting with other people and talking music! Please do reach out on Facebook, or anytime after 7pm at 1-855-685-LIVE so we can chat it up and get to know each other. One of the coolest things in the world to me is to hear stories of how songs or artists have touched your life – whether it was as simple as hearing someone’s song and having it cheer up your day – or even bigger than that. I’m really a believer that music can make life SO much more worth living… so I can’t wait to hear from you and share some great Throwbacks together!

Listen to Throwback Nation Radio with Tony Lorino from 7-midnight each weeknight, and a weekend edition of the show with Danny Hustle on Saturdays and Sundays! Of course you can listen to the show online at 923bobfm.com or on the new 92.3 BOB-FM app. You should also definitely check out the show on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram!
