Will Arnett’s gravelly voice has defined some of his most beloved roles: it made his bombastic doofus G.O.B. into Arrested Development’s MVP, it turned him into a worthy rival for Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock, and it perfectly suited him for the role of the Lego universe’s Caped Crusader. As the star of The Lego Batman Movie, he brings a certain actorly gravitas to every punch line, and the best part is that he can take that skill with him anywhere. Trying to quell a dispute between his kids? Batman lays down the law. And in a new segment from the BBC Radio 1 station, he puts his voice to good use once more, as a prank on an unsuspecting toy store.

‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Review: Finally, A Batman Who Does Play Around
It’s a question that has perplexed Batman villains since at least 1989: “Where does he get those wonderful toys?” Finally, we have an answer. The LEGO Store. The one a few blocks from Warner Bros.’ New York offices currently sells at least eight different LEGO Batman sets, all of which appear in various forms in The LEGO Batman Movie. The film is, like The LEGO Movie before it, a feature-length toy commercial — and, like The LEGO Movie before it, The LEGO Batman Movie is far more entertaining than a giant piece of crass commercialism has any right to be.

We’re far enough from the premiere that you’d barely remember Arrested Development Season 4 as one of the first Netflix original offerings, but at long last, Season 5 might finally escape its own arrested development. Producer Brian Grazer says the last cast hurdles have been cleared, and news should be “happening soon.”

Although just about every character in The LEGO Movie was delightful enough to deserve their own spinoff, only one truly warranted it: Will Arnett’s hilariously narcissistic Batman. The new trailer for The LEGO Batman Movie expands on what made that character so great, functioning as both a loving sendup and amazing satire of the iconic superhero. It’s kind of perfect.

One of the great things about The LEGO Movie is that the characters are so interesting that almost all of them could potentially warrant their own spinoff. That’s especially true in the case of Will Arnett’s Batman, who not only has decades of comic-book, film and television history to work with, but an entire sandbox of merchandise to go along with all of it — including an insane number of vehicles. You can see some of them in a new image from The LEGO Batman Movie, but we have to imagine that this photo barely scratches the surface.
