Amazon really wants that John Krasinski money.

It’s been two years since the role was first confirmed, but John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan finally has a 2018 assignment. The new Amazon take on the iconic Tom Clancy character will debut Labor Day weekend, but a new Super Bowl trailer is already here.

Amazon has undergone significant changes in recent months with regard to its TV department. Not only is the company aiming for broader, Lord of the Rings-size hits under a new studio head, but Amazon may drop its signature pilot process of letting viewers pick new series.

We thought perhaps John Krasinski’s Amazon take on Jack Ryan had finished its major cast, but with production looming, another major name joins the fray. Film icon Peter Fonda will join the series in a “key” role, beginning with the first episode.

It’s taken awhile for Amazon’s Jack Ryan prequel series to get off the ground, and with John Krasinski in the title role, we’re finally starting to see more cast. First to join the newer, younger, funnier Jack Ryan is none other than Abbie Cornish in a leading role.

Just the other day saw Carlton Cuse’s Jack Ryan updating to reveal that John Krasinski would be allowed to keep things a bit light, but the project’s latest turn is no laughing matter. Michael Bay’s 13 Hours definitely pushed John Krasinski a bit closer to action hero than Office-mate, but one wouldn’t hire the erstwhile Jim Halpert if not some of those classic camera-mugs, right? Tom Clancy, the hugely successful and prolific author behind the Jack Ryan series of books and multiple video game franchises, died at a hospital last night in Baltimore at the age of 66. His publisher confirmed the news to the New York Times but no cause of death has been announced.
