The Red Light Music Series is grassroots effort to promote local-area musicians and their original works.  It happens once a month and the next one will be held tonight (Jan. 15) at Dickie Doo BBQ.

I talk about it a lot, but it's because it's something I'm really interested in: local music. I used to see a lot of local bands when I lived in Michigan, but I had lived there for 10 years and I knew everybody. Well, now I'm new to town, so I really don't know the local music scene at all. Luckily I found out about something that can help me with that: Band Night at Dickie Doo BBQ.

When news broke that Dickie Doo BBQ was closing its doors on April 6 after being open since 1974, the people of Sedalia mourned the lost of such a great venue for live music, great food and good times. After a bit of a hiatus and plenty of people begging Rick Hunt to bring the Doo back, he has decided to reopen the doors.

I have been sitting on this for a while now, just waiting for the right time to talk about it.  Unfortunately, I guess there is no right time and the word is out.  Dickie Doo BBQ, which has been open since 1974, is closing it's doors after Saturday night's show with Smokestack Soul.
