22 Jump Street

All-female reboots are having what is called “a moment.” We had Ghostbusters this year, which is getting “many” sequels, we’re getting Ocean’s Eight which we’re pretty sure is just a 2-hour movie of Cate Blanchett and Rihanna wearing really cool clothes, and last year the team behind both Jump Streets announced that they’re making an all-female spinoff. Broad City writers Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs were hired to write a screenplay, and then Sony took on Bob’s Burgers team Lizzie and Wendy Molyneaux to write a competing script. Now, Rodney Rothman, the writer behind 22 Jump Street, is onboard the screenplay party boat, and might direct the picture as well.

'22 Jump Street' gave us one of the most hilarious end credits sequences in comedy history, and one that seemed to signal to audiences that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were done with making 'Jump Street' movies, as it delivered concepts for about 20 fake sequels. But not so fast: '22 Jump Street' writer Rodney Rothman has been hired to return for '23 Jump Street,' so it seems like Ice Cube's threat to send our favorite undercover cops to medical school might not be out of the question.

On first viewing, Channing Tatum's video about his new obsession, 'The Dick Graze' (#DickGraze for the Twittersphere), earned a reaction along the lines of, "Stop trying to make 'fetch' happen. It's not going to happen." But then, keeping in mind that "fetch" actually did happen, and how idiotic us men can be (Ha! Dick graze. Giggle), we're ready to embrace this song-and-dance routine of the '22 Jump Street' star peddling his new thing/hashtag.

Everyone expected '22 Jump Street' and 'How to Train Your Dragon 2' to open well, but you won't find many people who expected the raunchy R-rated comedy to open bigger than the family friendly animated adventure. But here we are! Both films opened well, but '22 Jump Street,' like the first film, is has taken a hammer to all expectations.
