Something huge is coming to the State Fair Community College.  Not only will there be scads of teenagers, but sequins, rhinestones, dance shoes and EXCITEMENT. Sixteen choirs from 13 school districts will compete Jan. 10 at the 2015 State Fair Community College invitational Show Choir Festival in the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center on the Sedalia campus.

Performances by area high school show choirs will begin at 9 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. when an awards ceremony will be held. The public is invited. Admission is $5 for the entire day; attendees may leave and re-enter throughout the day, all you'll need is your hand stamped.  More than 400 singers and instrumentalists are expected to perform, one of the largest festivals SFCC has ever hosted. They will compete for awards in a variety of divisions including outstanding performance in small, medium and large school classifications as well as mixed and girls’ choirs.  I got to speak to one of the organizers of the event,  and the Music Arts Coordinator for SFCC, Ron Sayer, about the big day.

It's going to be a positive, encouraging, musical day! Awards also will be given for Best Male and Female Performer, Best of Show, Best Vocal Sound, Best Ballad Performance, and Best Choreography.  High school choirs scheduled to perform are from Warrensburg, Jefferson City, Savannah, Lincoln, Smithton, Cole Camp, Maryville, Cameron, Chillicothe, Knob Noster, Green Ridge, and North Kansas City-Oak Park.  Proceeds will help support the college’s Music Arts program, and the Booster Club will be there with refreshments and a concession stand.   For more information, call Ron Sayer, Music Arts program coordinator, at (660) 596-7269. You don't wanna miss out, this is gonna be huge!

Showingly yours,
Behka
