Here's a look at some of your weekend events in our area.

The April 24th EpiCenter is on Friday, May 2.

There will be an  EpiCenter in May on Friday, the 30th.  Both events are from 6pm to 8pm those days and are for youth 10 years and older.  A free dinner and games are provided during EpiCenter events.

The American Red Cross encourages eligible individuals to support these humanitarian efforts by making an appointment to donate lifesaving blood this May.

The next donation drive will be held in Pettis County May 2 from 10 a.m. to  4 p.m. at State Fair Community College Heckart Building, 3201 W. 16th in Sedalia, Mo. Simply call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org to make an appointment or for more information.

The Sedalia Parks and Recreation are hosting a dance.

It’ll be held at Convention Hall on May 2, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m with  music from John Cecilia and The Country Ordaras.  There’s a $5 entry fee, and bring a dish to pass. All proceeds will go to the Sedalia Senior Center.

More than 60 students in State Fair Community College’s Music Arts program will present their spring musical retrospective at 7:30 p.m. May 2-3 in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.

The SFCC Jazz Band, Jazz Choir and Chamber Choir will perform an evening of music designed to highlight some of their musical accomplishments from this year. Tickets are $6 each; tickets for groups of 10 or more are half price. There will be an auction at the American Legion in Sweet Springs.

It’ll take place on May 3 at the American Legion Building Post #279.  It starts at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast: eggs, ham, sausage, biscuits and gravy, orange juice, milk and coffee for a free will donation.  The auction begins at 9:00 a.m.  sharp with items donated including: Kansas City Royals tickets, Powell Gardens tickets, Kansas City Chiefs tickets, Kansas City Zoo admissions, a 32 inch flat screen TV, and many more items from local businesses.  All proceeds will be used for the remodel and update of the post.  For information, contact any 40 & 8 member or Commander Lewis Bybee at 660-335-6936.

The Shrine Club of Sedalia will have their monthly breakfast.

It’s open to the public and held at 1375 Elm Hills blvd.  It’ll happen on Saturday, May 3 from 7:00 to 10:00 a.m.  They’ll serve eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, juice, milk or coffee for $6.  For to go orders, call 660-281-3619 or 826-6171

Mikal Sue’s Miracle Run will be on May 3 beginning at 9:00 a.m.

It’s a 5/10k run, 2 mile walk on Drake Harbor in Warsaw.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and continues until 8:30 a.m.  The race begins at 9:00 a.m.  Pre-registration is $25,  day of registration the price goes up to $30.  They will have snow cones, food, games and fellowship.  Bring the whole family.  For more information, call 66-723-3360. Bothwell Regional Health Center will hold a Safe Sitter babysitting education class from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.

The class will be in the Bothwell Education Center, 600 E. 14th Street in Sedalia. The class is designed to educate adolescents to prepare them for babysitting. Curriculum was recently updated to include pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.   Students also learn about injury management and prevention, childcare essentials, behavior management, the business of babysitting and how to care for a choking child or infant. Course materials are designed for children ages 11 to 13. Participants must be at least 11 years old. Cost for the class is $35, which includes a messenger bag containing babysitting essentials.  Preregistration is required and can be done by calling 660-827-9138 or e-mailing classes@brhc.org. Sally’s Crusaders of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life 2014 will host a Kickin’ Cancer Country BBQ and Dance on May 3, 2014, at Liberty Park in Sedalia.

Tickets for the dinner and dance are $10 per person.  Renegade Rail and Missouri State Fair Idol 2011 Ryan Manuel are the musical guests for this event.  Local celebrity cooks will compete for awards in three categories:  best barbecue meat, best side dish, and best dessert.  Great food and fun begins at 6pm on May 3rd.  Join us and help support the Pettis County Relay for Life Cancer Walk.

The Applewood Christian School is renting out booth space at the Calvary Episcopal Church parking lot for vendors to sell their unwanted items.

It’ll take place on May 3 form 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the church parking lot, 713 South Ohio.  Space rental is $20, $40 for two and you keep your profits.  Call Shelley at 596-4044 to reserve your booth space.  Proceeds from the booth rental go toward the Applewood Christian School trip to Boston.

The State Fair Community College Renewable Energy Technology Club, “The Renewables,” will sponsor a Green Day in May 5K run/walk and a free renewable energy seminar May 3 on the Sedalia campus.

The race will start at 8:30 a.m. and will begin and end in front of the north entrance of the Yeater Learning Center. The course is 99 percent pavement. Preregistration is available through April 23; race-day registration will begin at 7 a.m. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for students with ID who register by April 23, or $30 for adults and $15 for students with ID who register after April 23 or on race day. All participants will receive free T-shirts, and post-race refreshments will be available. Proceeds will benefit club projects. Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers in seven age categories. Parking will be available in the main college lot on 16th Street. The interactive seminar, “Renewable Energy Assessment,” is open to the public and will begin at 11 a.m. in the Parkhurst Student Commons in the Stauffacher Center. Topics will include solar panels, solar thermal and biomass systems. Take the Wheel will raise money for the Concordia Senior Center.

Meyer Motors Ford is raising money for the Care Connection for Aging Services.  Take a test drive and earn $20 for the Concordia Senior Center.  The fundraiser takes place on May 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Central Park of Concordia.  The test drive costs you nothing, but can provide four meals for a senior.  Refreshments will be available.

The Sedalia Kiwanis Club invites the community to be a part of the 7th annual Sedalia Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast. 

Sedalia Mayor Stephen Galliher and other community leaders will join Kiwanians, members of the clergy and others to enjoy a meal and offer prayers. The guest speaker for the day will be Joyce Foster. Certificates will be presented to nominated outstanding youth from area churches and a $500 check will be presented to the winner of the William Schien Scholarship presented annually by the Sedalia Kiwanis Club to a gradating senior from an area high school. The Sedalia Youth Center at 420 West 16th street will have an auction and bake sale.

It’ll take place on May 3 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with many items up for bid.  Proceeds will benefit the Sedalia Youth Center.  For more information, call 827-4833.
