Here are some of the happenings going on this weekend. 

State Fair Community College is seeking donations of quality used women’s and men’s clothing for its annual “Hire Attire” professional clothing sale.

Hire Attire was created to provide affordable professional clothing for SFCC students who are working or about to enter the workforce.  Donations of business and business casual attire will be accepted from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 19 and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 22 in Thompson Conference Center in the Heckart Center on campus. Items requested include jackets, slacks, shirts, ties, blouses, skirts, suits, dresses, sweaters and accessories.

The Hire Attire sale will be open to SFCC students from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. April 24 and will feature a fashion show at noon in the Yeater Learning Center lobby.  The sale will open to the public from 4:30-7:30 p.m. April 24 and from 8 a.m. to noon April 25. The sale will be held in the Thompson Conference Center. KMOS-TV, the University of Central Missouri’s public television station, will host a Quilting Expo Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21 at the UCM Multipurpose Building.

The event will be open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.  Admission is $2 per person. The State Fair Lions Club is hosting their annual Crappie Tournament.

It’ll take place on Saturday, April 20 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Bucksaw Marina on Truman Lake.  Entry is available for anyone over the age of 12, ages 12-17 must be accompanied by an adult.  There must be two people to a boat, entry fee is $40 a boat.  Check in is at 5:30 a.m. to 6:45 a.m. Saturday.  Pre Tournament meeting will be at 7:00 a.m.  For more information, or to enter, contact the State Fair Lions office at 660-826-3729.

 

Throughout the month of April, anytime, any day during business hours, you  may register anyone of the age of 18-55 for the National Bone Marrow Registry.

They are having a drive on April 20th, free of charge, at the Walgreen’s, 801 South Limit in Sedalia.  For any questions, call Heather at 826-7464.

 

The Outlaw Bootleggers are hosting a Dance Camp on April 20th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm for kids ages 3 to 10.

They will learn a dance that they will perform during halftime of the April 20th game. Each participant will receive a camp t-shirt and one game admission ticket. The 15th Annual Ham and Bean Fundraiser Dinner with Proceeds to benefit Meals on Wheels will begin at 11:00 a.m. on April 20.

It’ll be held at the Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3700 West Broadway, until 3:00 p.m. Tickets for adults are $5, children aged 6-12 are $2, and under six eat for free.  Tickets may be purchased at the door, and funds will be matched by Thrivent.

 

Come out with your dirty dogs and vehicle.

Let us wash your dirty dogs and vehicles. Fundraiser for AnimalFAIR Saturday April 20th 11:30 – 3:30 at Tractor Supply. Plus, there will be a petting zoo sponsored by one of the 4-H Clubs and an adoption event for cats & dogs. Don’t have a dog?  You can still enjoy the event and get your car washed.  AnimalFAIR is Sedalia’s no-kill cat and dog rescue.

The 2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration will take place April 20, 21, and 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

There will be free trees for kids and a petting zoo, with crafts and games.  You’ll get recycling information and ideas on how to reuse, reduce and recycle – with plenty of chances to buy eco friendly products.  There will be live music, spin gypsies, food and drinks with a fiber spinner, master gardener booth, garden and landscape vendors and composting information.  You can also learn about herbs and honeybees.  It’ll be held on the Bright Hope Farm at 16330 Farmers City Road in Hughesville.  For more information, call 660-596-3818.  Cost of admission is $3 per person.
