The Sedalia City Council heard a presentation from Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Angie Thompson on Monday night about the Chamber's success over the past year.

-----------------------------
Thompson requested help from the City with funding for the annual Chamber Christmas Parade and Fourth of July Celebration in the amount of $1,000 for each event.

“Because we are a 501-C6, which means we're only funded through our membership and fund-raising (events),” Thompson explained. “So again this year, we're just asking for a little bit of help with the Christmas parade and the Fourth of July Community Celebration.”

Thompson noted that parade entries were up this year with 121, as opposed to 92 last year. “We had some great variety (in the parade) and with the Fourth of July (event), we had Dirt Road Addiction and they drew a huge crowd into the grandstand area,” she said. In addition there was a large amount of car traffic on the fairgrounds.

The Fourth of July event is hard to get completely funded through sponsorships, Thompson noted. So monetary help from the City of Sedalia is much needed and appreciated. “We want to make sure we're doing the best we can to get the best fireworks and the best band,” she said.

During her presentation, Thompson noted that about $7,500 is spent on fireworks, while $1,000 is spent on hiring the live band at the Fourth of July celebration.

Thompson also introduced well-known community leader John Meehan as the Chamber's new president of the board.
