In December of 2015, Rush drummer Neil Peart suggested he had retired from the group when he said it was time to take himself "out of the game." His bandmates, Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson, seemed to be in disbelief, reluctant to admit that perhaps the band was done. Their stance has changed in recent years and now Lifeson is moving forward with a new project, collaborating with skinsman Marco Minnemann.

"Working on a new collaborative release together with Rush’s Alex Lifeson. Watch this space for more details to follow soon," wrote Minnemann in a post on Facebook alongside artwork depicting the two prog rock musicians.

Minnemann is a German drummer who has spent time in various groups, most notably playing with Joe Satriani, Porcupine Tree's Steven Wilson, The Aristocrats and was even a brief live member of German tech-death brutes Necrophagist. He also auditioned for the role of Dream Theater's new drummer following their split with Mike Portnoy, but lost the job to Mike Mangini.

No other details have emerged about this collaborative work and it is unknown if this project will remain a duo or if other members will be enlisted. Will Lifeson also handle bass in addition to his presumed role as the guitarist? We'll have to wait to find out.

If the band goes on tour, it could be your only chance to catch Lifeson onstage once more as Geddy Lee recently said that Rush have no plans to tour again.
