If imitation is truly the sincerest form of flattery, then we suppose Cee Lo Green has just paid the Ramones a compliment of sorts.

Green, a recording artist who’s been moonlighting for the past few years as a coach on NBC’s hit singing competition series ‘The Voice,’ has been tapped by the NFL to provide the theme song for this season of ‘Thursday Night Football’ — and he’s reportedly delivered a track titled ‘I Love Football,’ which sets new, gridiron-themed lyrics to the Ramones’ ‘Blitzkrieg Bop.’

Rolling Stone reports that each week’s game “will open with a 90-second video clip shot and uploaded to the web by fans performing” the song, which Green and the NFL have dubbed a ‘fanthem.’

“It’s finally that time again…and I really love my football,” explained Green. “The NFL always brings us the biggest and brightest entertainment spectacle in sports and now with ‘Fanthem,’ NFL Network gives loyal fans the chance to participate!”

‘Thursday Night Football,’ currently entering its seventh season on the NFL network, will expand to 13 games this year, thus giving anyone connected with ‘I Love Football’ more than a dozen chances to apologize.
