Prescription Drug Take Back at Pettis Co. Sheriff’s Department

The Pettis County Sheriff's Department will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 27.

A press release from the Pettis County Sheriff's Department says that from 10:00 a.m. -  2 p.m. the sheriff's office and the Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.

Residents can bring pills for disposal to the Sheriff's Office at 319 S Lamine Ave. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

It was noted that the DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.

Last April, Americans turned in 450 tons of prescription drugs at almost 5,500 sites operated by the DEA and more than 4,200 of its state and local law enforcement partners. Overall, in its 15 previous Take Back events, the DEA and its partners have taken in over 8.1 million pounds—more than 4,050 tons—of pills.

"For the past eight years, local residents looking to get rid of their unused, unwanted or expired medications have been able to properly dispose of them via the drop box located in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Office," says Pettis County Sheriff Kevin Bond. "If you are not available on October 27th, meds can also be deposited in the drop box anytime, day or night. Just stop by the Sheriff’s Office lobby at 319 South Lamine to place your medications in the secure drop box."
