The Pettis County Sheriff's Office has been receiving numerous reports from residents getting unsolicited calls from a "Captain Keller," telling them they have a warrant for their arrest for failure to pay taxes or comply with jury or court order.

The Pettis County Sheriff's Office says the scam caller pressures citizens for payment of bond to avoid them being arrested and taken to jail. If you return the number listed on the Caller ID, it is being answered as "Sheriff's Department" by the scammers.

This is a scam and deputies will not call you about an arrest warrant, nor would you ever be asked to make payment over the phone, wire money, or go to a store and purchase pre-loaded cards for bond.

As with other types of scams, the sheriff's department is reminding everyone not to be drawn in by unsollicited calls which ask for personal information or demanding payment.

The scam is under investigation by Pettis County Sheriff's deputies.

To report scams, call the sheriff's office at 660-827-0052.
