Just when you thought Netflix the new premiere destination for Marvel’s TV branch, Hulu snags a few Runaways. Six, to be exact, as the long-gestating Marvel property has a full series order for the streaming service from Gossip Girl creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.

Deadline broke first word of the news, which sees the new series following “the story of six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other but who must unite against a common foe – their parents.” The series was created by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona in 2003, chronicling a group of teenagers as they discover their parents belong to an evil crime organization.

For the moment, it remains unclear if the series would fall under the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or chart its own continuity, like that of FX’s X-Men adjacent Legion. Says Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb:

We’ve known the Runaways‘ story would make great television, and being lucky enough to have Josh and Stephanie — who have time and again created shows that speak so genuinely to this exact audience — write and produce the series is nothing short of remarkable.

Potential to adapt The Runaways as a feature has been around since at least 2008, but will Hulu’s version fall into Marvel’s grand plan? What should we hope for, as the adaptation gears up?
