I spend most of my day in either the studio or in my office. This is the first time I've had a real office here at the stations. During what I like to call The Blip (where I worked at McCarthy Toyota), I had a cubicle, and sometimes an enclosed office. But here, I was always in the studio or in a corner counter space near the studios. Sometimes I'd set up in the newsroom, to be in the center of things, so to speak.

Now, I have a real office with a desk full of snacks, band-aids, business cards, heartburn chews, hand sanitizer, all that good stuff. I have pens and paper clips and a stapler and a tape dispenser and post it notes, the whole shebang. Sure, I have stuff that I need, like a calendar to write down when live remotes are scheduled, a box for paperwork and all that jazz...... but I also have a candy dish.

It's a hold over from The Blip, I always found that it made customers feel a little better, and it kept the service department happy when they walked by my desk. That was key, to make sure that I was treating service, detail, and the body shop right. And they all loved Jolly Ranchers.

And I've discovered it's a great practice to keep up here at Townsquare - because it can act as a bit of a buffer.  If someone comes into my office and asks me a question I don't want to answer, candy. If someone comes in to holler about something I said or did, candy. Fellow staffer feeling cranky? Sugar will fix it!

Maybe YOU should keep candy handy, too. And keep a few sugar free ones, too. You never know when a diabetic might need some relief.

Sweetly yours,
Behka
