Greeters Will Be No More at Some 1,000 Walmart Stores

Most likely when you've walked into a Walmart store you were met by a greeter. In the future this position is being phased out at some 1,000 stores by the corporate giant.

In a story by the Associated Press, the 'blue-vested greeters" will not be a staple at some 1,000 stores. Walmart made this announcement to their greeters this week, and many disabled workers that fill these positions say they're being ill-treated.

According to Walmart the new position will be an expanded, more physically demanding “customer host” role. These changes take place on April 26. To qualify for this new position you must be able to lift 25-pound packages, climb ladders and stand for long periods.

For those greeters with physical disabilities, e.g., cerebral palsy and spina bifida, this is a concern. Walmart says they are making an effort to place the disabled greeters into other positions with the company.

Being America’s largest private employer, Walmart is facing a backlash of criticism. Not only has Walmart made changes but also other chains have been redefining roles at stores as they compete with Amazon.
