Cardboard regatta? I hardly knew her! Sorry, that was a terrible attempt at a joke. But the Food Bank of Central and Northeastern Missouri is definitely not a joke. They provide a lot of food to our own local Open Door, and the Buddy Pack program helps dozens of Sedalia and Pettis County kids stay fed when they're not at school.

And now, the Food Bank is putting the fun in fundraiser. They're having their first ever cardboard boat regatta.

Float Your Boat allows teams to construct and race boats made entirely of cardboard! Mid-Missouri's only cardboard boat regatta, this event has become The Food Bank's premier spring event, raising money to provide food for those in need. Because of The Food Bank's affiliation with Feeding America and ability to purchase bulk food items at heavily discounted costs, we are able to acquire $210 worth of groceries with every $10 raised.

It'll be held on Saturday, April 28 at the Bass Pro Shops lake in Columbia. Teams are challenged to construct boats using only cardboard and duct tape that they will race across Bass Pro Shops Lake on the day of the event. Prizes are awarded for most creative, best use of a theme, ugliest boat and more! There is also a "Titanic Award for the Best Sinking" for teams whose boats do not make it to shore. Registration opens at 9:00 a.m., and the races start at 11:00 a.m. If you want to register online, click here.

Floatingly yours,
Behka
