Every night, I tell myself I'm going to go to bed early.  Every morning, I curse myself a little bit when I wake up because I didn't go to sleep sooner.  Well, I know a lot of us feel that way sometimes. You're not the only person who would consider KILLING A MAN right now if it meant you could get another half hour of sleep.

The average person gets WAY less than eight hours of sleep . . . even less than seven hours.  According to a new study, the average person now goes to bed at 11:15 P.M. and wakes up at 5:50 A.M.  That's only six hours and 35 minutes of sleep per night.  The study also found 40% of people get LESS than six hours of sleep per night.  Only 25% sleep for more than seven hours.   I try to get somewhere around seven hours of sleep a night.  But I have gone without for long periods in my younger days.

Back in college, I was attending full time classes at UCM and working overnights in the Sweet Springs area. So I'd get off work at 8 a.m., drive to Warrensburg, have a class from 9:00 a.m. to about noon,  have a lab from 2-5, go home, crash, get up at ten, leave by 11, and work from 12-8 again.  It sucked.  It was not a good thing and I was almost always cranky.   Now I get up early and go to bed early, but I don't have to go without sleep to get stuff done.  I think the longest I ended up staying up during that semester was about two days - and I don't ever wanna do that again! What is the longest you've ever had to go without sleep? Why? Take our survey and tell us about it, and you'll get points to win prizes!

Sleepily yours,

Behka
