I have said this before, and I'll say it again: I watch a lot of crime shows. Investigation Discovery pretty much owes their viewership to me. Husbando watches more Law and Order reruns than you can shake a stick at. So, when duty calls, I must avail myself to my co-workers. My detective skills are needed!

The crime? A missing USB for a wireless keyboard. Our receptionist, Christina, was using it yesterday until about two.

For some reason, the small usb that you plug into the computer in order to use a wireless keyboard was just.... gone.

It looks like this.

It left her poor keyboard, who I have named Davey, lifeless.

These things are pretty tightly pushed in, as most of you who use one would know. So it didn't just "fall out" or something like that. It was deliberately removed. But why? What motive could there be for removing this small device? I may never know. But, I do have SUSPECTS.

As I mentioned, the keyboard worked properly at about 2:30 p.m. So that means in our crime timeline, the event was after 2:30 p.m.  Who had opportunity? Who had motive?

Let's first examine opportunity.

Beau, Kurt, and myself all leave about 2:00 p.m.  We're out (plus, I know I didn't do it).

Marcie was at an orthodontist appointment.

So that leaves Jenn, Debbie, Bob, Derrick, Kellie, Julie, Randy and Ryan... and the overnight cleaning crew of two adults and a small child.

I got vehement denials from most of the suspects. Although, one sales person, Jenn, was suspiciously "sick" today......

BUT, my Spidey Senses are telling me that an adult would not have a reason to take such an item, primarily because just removing the USB would do nothing. It's not like you can plug it in to something else and get a working device. It doesn't make sense to take the USB and not the keyboard that goes with it.

I searched desks, studios, floors, and hearts. No one jumps out as a viable suspect amongst the staff. I still have unanswered questions, though. I know on  Criminal Intent, Vincent D'Onofrio often walked through possible scenarios with suspects. I'll try that. My gut is telling me that there's a small child who got very bored last night while their parents performed their cleaning duties. They were probably looking for someplace to hide.. like maybe under a desk? And then, they were looking for something to play with... maybe a computer? I don't want to make accusations here without any proof. But... it does seem most likely that a kid would take it, not knowing what it was, and not knowing they were doing anything that would inconvenience anybody.

Turns out, my hunch was right. The little boy who was here found it and turned it in to our Business Manager, who gave it back yesterday. See, I knew my detective hunches were legit.

Well, wait. That explains where it is... not how it was taken.  The plot thickens!

THE MYSTERY CONTINUES!

BONG BONG*.

Detectively yours,
Behka
