Tickets remain available for the University of Central Missouri’s annual Freedom Scholarship dinner,  planned for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015. The event is the highlight of the university’s 2015 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

Tickets for the dinner will be available by contacting the UCM Office of Mentoring, Advocacy and Peer Support at 660-543-4156, or the Greater Warrensburg Area Chamber of Commerce at 100 S. Holden. Tickets may be purchased at the Bronze Level for $50, Silver Level for $75, or the Gold Level at $100. Table sponsorships also are available.

UCM alumnus Lucas Boyce, director of business development and legislative affairs for the Orlando Magic, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Boyce, who received a bachelor’s degree in political science and speech communication from UCM in 200, joined the Orlando Magic in 2008 as director of community relations, public relations and education outreach and was named to his current post in 2013. His duties include strategic business planning and oversight of the company’s efforts in statewide legislative and government affairs.

Proceeds from the event fund the Freedom Scholarships presented annually to high school and UCM students. The recipients of the 2014 Freedom Scholarships will be honored at 2015 event. All currently are enrolled at UCM.  I got the chance to speak with Dr Sharlene Bax of UCM about the dinner, and how you can help keep the dream alive.
