Here's something I personally never saw, but I've heard about it from a number of (possibly traumatized) Sedalia residents. In the 1980s, a television movie called The Day After earned huge ratings...and wiped west-central Missouri off the map! If you've never seen The Day After (and would also like to possibly become traumatized), the entire movie is now available on YouTube.

If you don't have time to watch the whole thing, which is over 2 hours long, you can skip ahead to where the bombs start flying, around the 58 minute mark. You don't actually get to see Sedalia in The Day After, but the city is mentioned in the movie. So is Windsor, Green Ridge, and some other area communities.

The Day After originally aired on November 20, 1983 on ABC. The cast included Jason Robards, JoBeth Williams, Steve Guttenberg and John Lithgow. IMDB says filming locations included Lawrence, KS; Harrisonville, MO; Kansas City; and De Soto, KS.
