Washington The Cat Meows a Lot, So I Found Out Why [VIDEO]

In our house, we have pets. Well, more specifically, we have cats. I have a cat (named Kitten), Husbando has a cat (Figgy), my father has a cat (Pickles), and we have kind of adopted my friend's cat, Washington.Washington is mostly a sweetheart.  But he is sometimes a cranky old man (he's about twelve years old) and he meows at me a lot.

If I step anywhere near him, or if I'm even within about a foot of him, he's meowing at me.

So I had to ask myself, "What is up, cat?  Why you meowin?"

Someone analyzed the six sounds cats make, and what they mean.  Meowing means a lot of things, but cats only do it around PEOPLE. Purring means they're happy . . . OR they're afraid.  Trilling . . . which is like a mix between a purr and a meow . . . means they want you to follow them.  Chattering with their mouth open means they're excited or frustrated.  Hissing means exactly what you think it means. So since all he does is meow....I read up about it. It can mean a lot of things, including that they're happy, angry, hungry, or just want attention.  And it's strictly a PEOPLE thing.  When they're kittens, they sometimes meow to their mothers.  But after that, it's all about people, and they almost never meow unless there's a HUMAN in the room.

Despite what some people think, cats don’t like being alone a lot. Cats often meow to initiate play, petting, or to get you to talk to them.   Many cats meow when their people come home, or even when they just meet them in the house. This is a hard habit to break, but I guess I should look at it as kitty saying he’s happy to see me.

And, he's getting a little older so maybe he's just telling me to get off his proverbial lawn.
