Captain Michael A. Turner, commanding officer of Troop F, Jefferson City, announces the 2017 Thanksgiving holiday traffic crash and preliminary enforcement totals for the Troop F area, which consists of the 13 counties in Central Missouri.

During the 2017 Thanksgiving weekend traffic crash counting period, which began at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, and ended at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2017, troopers participated in Operation C.A.R.E. (Crash Awareness & Reduction Effort).

In addition to Operation C.A.R.E., Troop F troopers conducted a Holiday Traffic Crash Reduction Effort on Interstate 70 on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, and Sunday, November 26, 2017. During these operations, troopers investigated 46 traffic crashes, in which there were eight injuries and one fatality. Two other fatality crashes were investigated by other agencies within the Troop F region.

Preliminary enforcement totals show Troop F troopers made 10 arrests for driving while intoxicated, five arrests for drug violations, and issued 183 citations for exceeding the speed limit. 59 people were cited for seat belt violations. Troopers responded to 149 calls for assisting motorists.

“We will continue to enforce traffic laws to help make our highways as safe as possible for all travelers,” stated Captain Turner. “Remember, every fatality is a tragedy and represents a family’s loved one. Please drive safely as we move into the Christmas season.”

The only 100 percent survivable traffic crash is the one that never happens. Make sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. Every day as we travel on Missouri’s roadways, we trust that every driver on the road is going to obey the speed limit, pay attention, and drive sober. “Don’t Violate The Trust.”
