Two titles from Townes Van Zandt's distinguished discography will return to store shelves through Charly Records' ongoing reissue series in February.

On Feb. 24, the label is scheduled to release remastered editions of Texas Rain, originally from 2001, and 1978's Flyin' Shoes. According to the label, both titles will continue Charly's mission to put out "lavishly repackaged" versions of Van Zandt's classic LPs — a campaign set to continue later this year with High, Low and In Between and Delta Momma Blues.

Flyin' Shoes broke a five-year drought for Van Zandt in 1978, uniting the singer-songwriter with producer Chips Moman. With the Stax vet — himself a Grammy-winning songwriter — behind the boards, Van Zandt found himself recording alongside a roster of session aces that included keyboardist Spooner Oldham and guitarist Randy Scruggs. A commercial failure upon release, Shoes proved a treasure trove for fans as well as artists in search of cover material; a number of songs, led by "No Place to Fall," have been interpreted by other acts.

Recorded years later and only given a limited release until now, Texas Rain paired Van Zandt with a roster of admirers-turned-duet partners, including Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris. The reissue adds a 20-page booklet with in-depth liner notes and a new interview with producer Kevin Eggers, who recalls, "This was the cream of the cream. Texas Rain is a timeless record. We really felt that we'd made a huge breakthrough in terms of our creative collaboration, the level of musicianship, the quality of the tracks and the energy we had. It was a golden time in our lives."

As Charly's press release notes, 2017 marks the 20th year since Van Zandt's untimely passing at the age of 52. For a look at the label's other releases in the reissue series, visit their official site.
