I'm a person who enjoys me some breakfast food. Admittedly, I'm not as far in as, say, Ron Swanson, but I'm in.And generally, I don't tend to want a sweet breakfast. Donuts are a big thing in the morning, I get it, but... for me it's more about the savory. And since it's kinda hard to get the motivation to make a savory breakfast before the sun comes up, most of the time I do without.

But Today.  Today is National Eggs Benedict Day!

I love Eggs Benedict, you guys. Love it.  And I hardly ever have it, because I'm too lazy to cook it, and really, it takes some effort to make that sauce. I did a little research, though, and I found out some things.

There are two different stories as to how Eggs Benedict came to be.

  • In 1894 stock broker Lemuel Benedict ordered “buttered toast, poached eggs, crisp bacon, and a side of Hollandaise”  at the Waldorf Hotel.  They were so impressed with the dish that they put it on the menu substituting ham and English muffins in place of the bacon and toast.
  • In the early 18th century, Pope Benedict XIII liked an egg dish so much that he requested it time and time again.  It is also believed that Pope Benedict XIII had an illness which added to his desire for this particular egg dish, hence the name Eggs Benedict.

Maybe I'll go on my lunch break (I have lunch at 10 a.m. - technically my breakfast since it's the first meal I'll eat, but... ) and have some. Or maybe I'll unlazy myself and make some. I have instructional videos, after all.

Benedictly yours,
Behka
