Hey Wonder Woman, you’ve got company — good company. Joss Whedon is coming to save the DC movie universe from Zack Snyder’s severe aesthetic, which is like a high school boy’s trapper keeper covered in nu metal band stickers circa 2000. The former Marvel favorite and Avengers director is returning to the superhero genre to write, direct and produce a standalone Batgirl movie for Warner Bros., a much-needed blast of optimism for their dreary DC franchise.

We’re still actively awaiting whatever project brings Joss Whedon back to the limelight, but as Buffy the Vampire Slayer reaches a 20-year anniversary, it’s impossible to ignore how TV consumption has changed. If ever Joss plotted a TV return, streaming options like Netflix would leap at the chance, though the Avengers director says of the all-at-once model “I would not want to do it.”

Unfortunate news for fans of Firefly and accomplished film and TV actor Ron Glass, as the Emmy-nominated Barney Miller star has passed away at age 71. Glass had also appeared in everything from The Twilight Zone to Friends, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Joss Whedon is open about his politics, never one to shy away from letting us all know whom he supports for this upcoming election. Just last week, he and a few of his Avenger pals posted a PSA to launch his new organization Save the Day, urging Americans to make sure they’re registered to vote. On Friday, Whedon also hosted a Facebook Live chat to promote Save the Day, in which he answered some fan questions, including which of the Avengers he’d pick to run the country.

You probably know that Joss Whedon’s production company is named Mutant Enemy. But did you know where the name comes from? Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly is a huge fan of the prog rock group Yes, and he supposedly chose the title as a nod to the band and their song “And You and I.” That’s just one of the facts featured in the latest episode of You Think You Know Movies!

Recent rumors have suggested that Joss Whedon himself might direct the two-part musical extravaganza, with Neil Patrick Harris to boot, but is there any truth to them?

Back in April, Amazon sent an e-mail to customers claiming that Avengers: Age of Ultron was available for pre-order on DVD and Blu-ray and would include an “extended edition”. The online retailer quickly retracted that statement saying that nothing had been officially confirmed by Disney and/or Marvel. Now, director Joss Whedon has had his say on the upcoming Avengers 2 DVD and can confirm that there will be no extended or director’s cut of the film, mostly because he’s “super f---king lazy”.

There’s a lot to like about Avengers: Age of Ultron, but the coolest thing about it is the way it reclaims the comic book part of the phrase “comic-book movie.” Rather than using these characters to do something “edgy” or “adult” or “important,” or sanding down their quirkier edges to appeal to as broad and mainstream an audience as possible, Age of Ultron doubles down on its source material’s geeky origins.

It’s a little strange that one of the most anticipated moments in Avengers 2 isn’t even something that takes place during the movie. Of course, we all want to see the team battle Ultron, but fans are already abuzz over what will be revealed in the post-credits scene. No need to wait any longer! We now have our answer, courtesy of director Joss Whedon: nothing.

Making any movie is difficult, but making the sequel to one of the most popular movies of all time? That’s downright Herculean and Joss Whedon refuses to play the modesty game with it comes to Avengers 2. Describing the film as a “nightmare” and the “hardest juggling act he has ever, ever tried to pull off,” the beloved writer/director pulled no punches in talking about the difficult creative decisions that went into making the movie.
