The Smith-Cotton Tigers have planned numerous activities in the school district and that all of Sedalia can participate in. Here is a look at the weekly activities planned.

SMITH-COTTON HOMECOMING WEEK ACTIVITIES

Oct. 13-18

Food Drives

Smith-Cotton High School students and teachers will have a food drive for the Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri. The goal is 4,000 cans of food.  There will be a competition among sophomores, juniors, seniors and teachers to see who will collect the most food.

Washington and Skyline elementaries also will conduct food drives during the week.

 

High School Homecoming Spirit Days

Monday:  Roaring ‘20s Day

Tuesday:  Cowboys and Indians Day

Wednesday:  Zombie Day

Thursday:  Hollywood Day

Friday:   Black and Gold Day

 

Homecoming Bonfire

The bonfire is set for 8 p.m. Thursday behind Susie Ditzfeld Memorial Field at Skyline Elementary. Hot dogs, chips and lemonade will be available. There also will be a junk car to beat on with a 10-pound sledge—3 whacks for $1, and a dunking booth — two shots for a $1.

 

Junior High Day of Service

S-C Junior High students will continue the tradition of devoting the Friday of homecoming week to giving back to the community. Team Victory will conduct a walkathon to benefit the local firefighters memorial fund. Other students will walk to Horace Mann Elementary, picking up trash along the way, then helping Horace Mann students make signs for the parade. Another group will decorate the downtown area.

 

Parade

Lineup for the Homecoming Parade begins at 3 p.m. Friday. The parade starts at the junior high and makes its way north on Massachusetts Avenue to 7th Street, heads west on 7th to Ohio Avenue, north on Ohio to Main Street, west on Main to Osage Avenue then south on Osage.

 

Tailgate party

The Sedalia School District Foundation’s Annual Tailgate Party begins at 5 p.m. Friday at Jennie Jaynes Stadium. This complimentary cookout (donations accepted) allows alumni a chance to spend time visiting with classmates, friends and family.

 

Homecoming football game

The Smith-Cotton Tigers take on the Center High Yellowjackets, with kickoff at 7 p.m. Friday.

 

Postgame party

After the game, Smith-Cotton alumni are invited to an “Alum-Fest” at Dukes & Boots, 21746 West 50 Highway.

 

Campus tours, pancake breakfast

On Saturday, the Smith-Cotton Junior High campus will be open 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. for tours, and Smith-Cotton High School will be open from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. A pancake and sausage breakfast will be offered in the cafeteria inside the FEMA building at the junior high. Tickets: $4 in advance or $5 at the door. Call the Foundation office at 660-829-2562 to reserve advance tickets. Entertainment will be provided by “Future Alumni” from Sedalia School District 200, including the Parkview Pizzazz show choir.

 

Distinguished Alumni event

Dr. Alan C. Braverman, the S-C 2014 Distinguished Alumni, will be honored from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Heckart Performing Arts Center at Smith-Cotton High School.

 

Stroll Down Ohio Avenue

From noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Ohio Avenue in downtown Sedalia will feature the West Central Missouri Vintage Auto Club car show, a book fair featuring the Pettis County Historical Society in the lobby of Hotel Bothwell, and a Smith-Cotton Alumni Art Show at the Liberty Center.

 

Paint the Town

A “Paint the Town” art event will be offered Saturday at Fitters 5th Street Pub. Sign-in/social hour begins at 1 p.m. Cost is $40 to receive instruction and materials for creating a 12x16 canvas painting. Register by Tuesday through the Sedalia School District Foundation office, 829-2562. Homecoming Dance

A students-only costume dance for homecoming will run from 8  to 10 p.m. Saturday in the Smith-Cotton High cafeteria. Cost is $3 for an individual, or $5 for a couple.
