The State Fair Community College Roadrunners will continue to play in the National Junior College Basketball Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas tomorrow night after winning Tuesday morning (March 18) 111-99 over Shelton State in overtime.

Shelton led in the first half 42-38 and was in control most of the game. At one point in the second half, SFCC trailed by 9, but they shifted to another gear and were able to grab a 90-89 lead with about 10 seconds left. Shelton missed a three-pointer and SFCC was fouled. Both free throws were made, extending the lead to 92-90 with 2.5 seconds left. Shelton passed the ball to half court and called a time out. There was a lengthy discussion by the refs to decide how much time went off the clock and if the player traveled with the ball before timeout was called. The refs decided after about a five minute discussion, there was 1.5 seconds left and Shelton would get the ball. There was an inbound pass and Shelton was able to dribble the ball a few times before heaving the ball up, but a foul was called with .1 seconds left, putting Shelton at the free throw line. Shelton sunk all three free throws and took it to overtime, all tied up 92 to 92.

State Fair came out in Overtime and rolled 111-99. Joe Thomasson lead the Roadrunners in points with 29, Kevin Punter had 27, Kedar Edwards had 25 and Dondre Alexander scored 14.

#19 ranked SFCC will take on #3 ranked Chipola College Indians from Marianna, Florida on Wednesday night (March 19) at 6 p.m. in Hutchinson, Kansas. Chipola College is coached by Patrick Blake. The Indians currently have six players averaging in double figures scoring. Freshman guard Sam Cassell, Jr averages 18.5 points per contest. Casell, Jr also dishes out a team-high 3.8 assists per contest. He also leads the team in steals per contest with 1.7. Sophomore guard Carlos Morris contributes 14.8 points per game. Sophomore guard Torian Graham adds 13.5 points per game. Sophomore forward Cinmeon Bowers pitches in with 12.8 points a game. Bowers pulls down a team-high nine rebounds per contest. Freshman guard Jamaar McKay averages 11.7 points per game. He also pulls down 5.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Demetrious Floyd contributes 11.6 points and three assists per game.
