Here's a look at all the events going on in our area this weekend. 

As part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center will sponsor after-hours “mammothon” breast cancer screenings from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, Oct. 4, and 7 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 5.

The screenings will be held at Ellis Fischel’s new facility at University Hospital, One Hospital Drive, Columbia. Parking will be available in the Patient-Visitor Parking Garage adjacent to University Hospital.  To receive a mammogram, women must be age 40 or older or have a doctor’s order. In addition to breast screenings, staff at the mammothon will provide information and education about breast cancer, as well as refreshments and door prizes. The Christ and Trinity Lutheran Church will have their Fall Rummage/Bake Sale.

The event will be held on Friday October 4 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  There will also be a Soup & Sandwich Luncheon on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  The cost is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children aged 6-12.   The meal will consist of soup or chili, sandwich, dessert and a beverage.  Call the church office at 826-8764.

Third National Bank is raising money for the United Way.

The Third National Bank employees are competing for your votes with 42 photographs that they have taken currently on display in the main bank lobby at 301 West Broadway.Votes are only twenty five cents each and all the proceeds will go to the United Way.  TNB employees will also be hosting a bake sale at several of the bank’s facilities on Friday, October 4.  Participating facilities are: 301 West Broadway, 400 West Broadway, 3000 West Broadway, 1307 South Limit and 2900 South Limit.

The  Sedalia School District Foundations 5th Annual Home coming weekend has several events. 

Here’s a look at what’s scheduled: Tailgate Party at the Stadium Friday evening.
Pancake/Sausage Breakfast and Campus Tours at the Smith-Cotton Junior High on Saturday morning from 7:30 a.m. -9:30 a.m. Campus Tours at Smith-Cotton High School from 9:30 a.m. – 11:20 a.m. Distinguished Alumni Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Saturday October 5th at Heckart Performing Arts Center.

The Shrine Breakfast will be on Saturday, October 5. 

They’ll have eggs, biscuits and gravy, bacon, sausage, juice, milk or coffee at 1375 Elm Hills Blvd.  They’ll serve on Saturday October 5 from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for a cost of $6.  For to go orders call 660-281-3619 or 826-6171

The Second Annual 5k  Walk/Run and Kids Fun Run will take place on October 5.

 It will be hosted by the Immanuel Lutheran Church Board of Education.  On Friday, October 4, pick up your packet at the Church.  on Saturday, there will be registrations at 7:00 a.m. in front of the Church.  8:00 a.m., the walk and run starts.  at 9:00 a.m., the Kids Fun Run will begin.  Entry fee is $20 for the run/walk, and $ for the Fun Run. They will also have a community breakfast on Saturday at the Church.  They’ll have pancakes, sausage gravy and biscuits, fruit and drinks for a free will donation.  For more information, call 660-335-4141.

AnimalFAIR has dogs available for adoption.

The adoption event will be held Oct 5th from 10:00 – 2:00 at Orschelin’s Farm & Home.  All are really great, healthy, young dogs completely vetted and ready for a loving home. If you want to see our animals available go to: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/animalfair.html.

The Bethlehem Baptist Church will have their Octoberfest.

It’ll take place at the church on October 5.  They’ll begin serving at 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  They’ll have chili, hot dog, drink and dessert along with a silent auction.  The meal will be a cost of $4.   Children 4 and under are free. They’ll have a bounce house, children’s games, theme baskets, Peanut Brittle by Joyce Williams, Fudge by Alfred Kindle and other activities.  Music will be provided by the Sproles family.

The 24th Annual Hughesville/Northwest All Class Reunion will be on October 5 at the Northwest High School.  

This is Hughesville’s 98th anniversary.  The 50th year class of 1963 will be presented.  A social will begin at 4:00 p.m. and tours of the school will be available until 6:00 p.m.  A buffet dinner and program will begin at 6:00 p.m.  The theme of the year is “That Was Then, This is Now” with Sharee Norfleet and Patti Wicker. All former graduates, students, faculty, administrators, staff and friends are invited.  Reservations and tickets will be required for the banquet and program.  The deadline is September 30th to be listed in the program book.  For more information, call Ruth Ann Leicher at 826-6153.

The Johnson County Historical Society is pleased to announce the first two performances of the Eclectic Cafe Concert Series.

Drawing influence from the string band tradition of the 1920′s the Knobtown Skiffle Band will play fiddle tunes, blues, stomps, drags and rags on Friday, October 5th.
Manda Shea & the Sumpthin’ Brothers will perform American roots music on Saturday, October 6th.   Both performances begin at 7 pm and take place at the historic old Johnson County Courthouse at 302 North Main in Warrensburg. Lit by candles and mirrors and presented without amplification the concerts are offered free of charge (free will donations will be accepted). Inside seating limited to 70 guests.
The children on Rob Parkhurst have established a memorial scholarship fund through the Sedalia #200 School District Foundation.
 In lieu of flowers for his memorial service, donations were accepted to establish this scholarship which will award a recipient in May of 2014. The family will be taking part in the Rob Parkhurst Memorial AUTUMN Street Poker Run presented by the Sedalia Motorcycle Association on Sunday, October 6th. They will have several commemorative items for sale, with proceeds going into the scholarship fund. The ride starts at Yeager’s Cycle, sign in 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will end at the Parkhurst Tiki House.
