Here are the happenings this weekend in our area!

The Sedalia Animal Shelter will have an Adoption Day.

It'll take place on Saturday, May 4th at the Tractor Supply Company Store, 3901 West Broadway.  It will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and they'll have dogs and kittens.

The Faith Baptist Church at 2331 South Ingram will host a basement sale.

They will have furniture, household/electrical appliances, toys, books, clothing, tools and more.  They’ll begin on May 3 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and finish on May 4 from 8:00 a.m. to noon.

The annual Big Band Dance Featuring the SC and SCJHS Jazz Bands is Friday..

Tickets $15 each includes Chicken Cordon Blue, green beans, baked potato, rolls, salad, dessert, and coffee, tea, or water.   Date is May 3rd. Contact a Jazz band member or Grant Maledy at 660-851-5366. This will be Big Band Music with some dance instructions.  Advance tickets only. Tickets will be on sale til April 21st.  There will be a silent auction. Not often in Sedalia can you enjoy an evening of live music, great dinner and dancing. At SC high school cafeteria.

The students in State Fair Community College’s Music Arts program will present their spring musical showcase at 7:30 p.m. May 3-4 in the Stauffacher Theatre on the Sedalia campus.

The SFCC Jazz Band will perform a kaleidoscope of musical styles, from Latin-infused jazz to Big Band jazz standards and contemporary jazz selections. One of the selections, “Tank (A Cowboy Beebop)” by composer Yoko Kanno, was arranged by SFCC graduating student Carl Wilken as a theory and arranging project. Tickets are $8 for the public and may be purchased online at sfccmo.edu/thearts. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the SFCC box office at (660) 530-5814, e-mailing tickets@sfccmo.edu or at the door. Admission for SFCC students, faculty and staff is free.

The Run/Walk for Mikal Sue will be Saturday.

Mikal Sue is a 7-year-old girl diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease called Sanfilippo Syndrome.  Family and friends are invited to a 5k run and 2 mile walk in her honor.  Preregister to save and be guaranteed a t-shirt. The day of registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 8:30 a.m.  Bring the whole family out to Drake Harbor in Warsaw for aa bounce house, live band, food, games, a bake sale, silent auction, and a contest for Outrageous Costume.  For more information, contact jbesseinchrist@yahoo.com or call 660-723-3360.

Hog Roast and Live Auction Fundraiser benefiting the Muddy Creek 4-H Saddle Club’s 4th Annual Open Youth Horse Show.

The dinner begins at 5:30 p.m, the dinner begins at 7:00 p.m.  The event will be held at The Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3700 W. Broadway.

There will be a benefit Bullride for 15 year old Garrison, who has been diagnosed with Lymphoma. It’ll be held at the Cowboy Church of Tipton, the Campfire Fellowship.

The event will take place May 4 with a silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m. and continuing til 8:00, with the bull ride taking place at 7:00.   Tickets are $8 for adults, and $4 for children aged 6-12.  Children 5 and under are admitted free.  The money raised goes towards Garrison Gray’s treatment and expenses.   For additional information, contact Adam  Marriott at 573-378-8788.

The 14th Annual CHS Bloomin’ Tea Party  to benefit the Children’s Therapy Center will take place Sunday, May 5 beginning at 2 p.m. It will be held at the Ewing Vocational Center.

The party will feature a tour of the CHS Bloomin’ Gardens greenhouse. The $15 per person price includes a photograph, a craft, a buffet filled with sweets & sandwiches, punch and tea.  Seats are limited and you must make a reservation.  Children will learn how plant flowers and take one home!  Call Susan at 826-4400, ext. 368 to make a reservation.

The Sedalia Chorale will have their spring concert with the theme of Patriotism and Pride.

It will take place on May 5 at 3:00 p.m. at the State Fair Community College.  Guest artists include the New Score Singers of Smith Cotton High School.  Adult admissions are $10 and students get in for free with ID.
