Here's a look at the events going on this weekend! 

The Senior Center with the Care Connection seeks volunteers to help locally.

They’re looking for home delivery meal drivers, beverage bar attendants, dining room attendants, kitchen assistants and front desk reception.  The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is located at 312 South Washington Avenue.  Make a contribution or volunteer your time by calling 660-473-1909 or 826-0713.

The Northwest High School will have their Courtwarming Dinner.

It’ll be held on Friday, January 17 from 5:00 p.m. on.  The menu will consist of bbq beef and bbq pork, baked beans, baked potatoes, cole slaw, applesauce, bread, dessert and a drink.  The Northwest Mustangs will be playing the Cole Camp Bluebirds that evening.  Adult admission is $7.50 in advance, or $8 at the door, and children ages 6-11 get in for $4.50.  You’re invited to join them for a meal while attending the game.

Sedalia Kiwanis Club Trivia Night is on Friday January 17, 2014 @ 7:00 p.m.

It’ll be held at the Salvation Army, 1200 E. Broadway.  The Kiwanis Trivia Night is open to teams from two to eight members and the    Sedalia Kiwanis Club is asking service clubs, schools, churches and families to come and test your knowledge. The entry fee is $10 per person and all proceeds will go to help fund youth programs in the Sedalia community. There will be a prize for the top team as well as door prize drawings throughout the evening, a 50/50 drawing, free refreshments and more.  To enter your team for the Kiwanis Trivia Night call Bob Milner at 660-827-5442 or email bobmilner@sbcglobal.net.

AnimalFAIR will have an adoption event.

Liberty Life Center church in Sedalia is offering an opportunity to create essential habits toward spiritual maturity in 2014. 

The Cleansing the Church seminar is a four-month course that helps Christians to receive healing from past hurts and events. People who have carefully worked through the Cleansing process are then able to help others walk a pathway of freedom. The church is planning two sections of the seminar. One section will meet at the Shepherd’s Place, 305 S. Ohio, each Saturday beginning January 18 at 5 p.m. The other section of the same lessons will meet in the church at 1501 Driftwood each Wednesday evening beginning January 22 at 6:30 p.m. Scholarships are available. The 3rd Annual Chocolate Gala and Wine Tasting is January 19. 

This is a community event of chocolates and wine tastings.  It’ll be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at a cost of $15 a person.  It’ll be held in the Prizes will be given along with a silent auction.  You can purchase tickets at Handel Haus, Happy Trails Antiques and Collectibles, and Sweets N Tiques in Cole Camp. UCM and the Warrensburg Ministerial Association will host the MLK Community Praise and Worship Service at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, in Hendricks Hall.

The event is part of the University of Central Missouri’s 2014 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Celebration, combining the traditional MLK Ecumenical Worship Service and MLK Gospel Concert.  The Rev. Terrence Moody of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church will bring the message as the featured speaker for the event. Music will be presented by the Jesus Saves Pentecostal Church of God Sanctuary Choir, the First United Methodist Church of Warrensburg Praise Team, and UCM’s ABC Gospel Choir. Special music will be presented by soloists Shirley Briscoe of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and Shannon Fisher of Kingdom Believers Christian Church. The Warrensburg Ministerial Association also will present its MLK Scholarship. The event is free and the public is invited to attend.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration will be presented locally in Sedalia.

The theme for the celebration will be “There Is No Future Without The Past”.  It will begin at 10:00 a.m. on January 20 with a Friendship Service at Sacred Heart Church.  Then there will be a commemorative walk to the Municipal Building and there will be another service at the Municipal building.  For more information, contact Cheri Heeren at 827-0560 with the Pettis County Community Partnership.
