Here's a look at some of the events going on in our area this weekend! 

Smith-Cotton Jazz Band Big Band Dance April 25.

This a relaxing evening of big band music, dancing and a delicious home cooked dinner. Bring a date or a bunch of friends. It is guaranteed to be a fun evening. The concert will be held at the Smith Cotton High School cafeteria and will be be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Proceeds will go to new instruments and other needs for the Jazz Band. Tickets will be on sale March 24-April 18th @ $18 each. No tickets will be sold at the door. Call 660-851-5366.

The Stewart Avenue Church of Christ and La Iglesia de Cristo present the 2014 Gospel Meeting.

The church is located at 1333 South Stewart in Sedalia. The central theme will be the Power of God’s Word.  Guest speaker will be Willie Alvarega.  Meetings on Friday and Saturday will be at 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday there will be three sessions:  9:45 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 6:00 p.m. For information, call the church at 826-1762.

The Sedalia Scottish Rite Club will host a Pancake Breakfast.

It’ll be held  at the Sedalia Masonic Center, on April 26 at 601 West Broadway from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for a cost of $5.  Proceeds will go to Meals on Wheels.

The Wesley Kids for Christ Preschool will host a free will donation pancake breakfast.

It’ll take place on Saturday, April 26 beginning at 7:30 a.m. and serving until 11:00 a.m.  Join them for all you can eat pancakes and sausage at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1322 West Broadway Blvd in Sedalia.

The Parkview Christian School will have a garage, church and bake sale.

It’ll take place on April 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Life Center at the school, 1405 East 16th.  All proceeds go to the Parkview pre-school scholarship program.  Donations to the sale are welcome.  For more information, or to donate, call Monica Holman at 596-1496.

The St Paul Lutheran High School is having a Prom Fundraiser for the class of 2014.

It’ll take place on Saturday, April 26 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the school gym, 205 South Main in Concordia.  They’re accepting donations for the silent auction.   They will have crafts, vendors, a bake sale, silent auction and kids games.  For information or to make a donation, call Mary Anderson at 660-473-2146 or 816-263-2551.

There will be a Cruisin for the Cure car show for the Relay for Life. 

It’ll take place on April 26, with registration beginning at 9:00 a.m. and continuing until 12:00 p.m.  It’ll take place at the First Christian Church, 200 South Limit.  Come out and enjoy an octane filled atmosphere raising money for the worth cause.  There will be food, music, bikes and cars.   For more information call Matt Cooper at 620-5556.

The Bothwell Regional Health Center Lub Dub Run will be on April 26.

Get your heart pumping and support a good cause by running or walking in Lub Dub, a 5K/10K Run and Walk.  The race begins at 8:00 a.m. at the Hospital. The seventh annual Lub Dub, benefits the Camye Callis Gaspard Memorial Heart Fund, which helps finance improvements in cardiovascular treatment at Bothwell Regional Health Center.  New this year – chip timing for quicker, more accurate results. The Corporate Challenge will add a team performance award in the 5K and 10K run. All participants who pre-register receive a Lub Dub t-shirt and swag bag. A performance tech shirt is available for a fee. The event also includes a Kiddie Run, beginning at 9 a.m., for children ages 9 and under. Award ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m.

AnimalFair will have a pet adoption event.

It’ll be held on Sat Apr 26, 2014  10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Tractor Supply Company in Sedalia. Come meet your new pet.  All the animals are completely vetted and ready for loving, forever homes.  For more information, visit  their Facebook or  their blog.

The Johnson County Juvenile Justice Collaboration, Bi-Lo Country Mart, and the Warrensburg Police Department are hosting a Drug Take Back Day.

It’ll be held on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 a.m to 2:00  p.m.  at the Bi-Lo Country Mart Lobby, 410 East Young in Warrensburg.  Now is the time to clean out all those old prescriptions and get rid of them safely.  Bring expired or unneeded over the counter medications, any medication from a licensed pharmacist, and veterinary prescriptions that are no longer needed.  Do not bring illicit drugs, sharp objects or needles, radioactive medications or bio-hazardous materials, glass thermometers or other medical devices.  For information, all Bev Newman at 660-422-7466.

The Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church will hold a Fish Dinner.

The fish dinner will take place at the church, 400 North Lamine street.  The dinner will take place on Saturday, April 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a cost of $8.  They’ll serve fish,  spaghetti, coleslaw, bread and dessert.  Call 826-2805 or 553-0296 for more information.

The Georgetown Community Club will have a ham and bean supper.

It’ll be held on Saturday, April 26 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  It’s all you can eat for a cost of $5 for adults, or $2 for children under 12.   Proceeds go to maintaining the historic two room school house.

The Karen Anstine Lamb Benefit Dinner will be on Saturday, April 26.

It’ll be held at the First United Methodist Church Celebration Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. and ending at 7:00 p.m.  There will be a silent auction, a live auction at 7:30 p.m. and they’ll serve pulled pork, potato salad, and baked beans.  The cost for the dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for kids aged 5-11, and kids four years of age and under eat for free.  To donate an item for the silent or live auction, or to purchase dinner tickets, all Amanda Balke at 660-473-1488.  Donations can also be made to the Karen Lamb Cancer Benefit Fund, Central Bank Attn: Kayla Thoenen POX Box 1277 Jefferson City, MO 65102.

The Applewood Christian School presents its spring drama production of Charleston: a Madcap Musical Comedy Tribute to the 1920′s.

Show nights are Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26 at 7:00 p.m.  Doors open at 6:30 p.m. You may purchase or reserve tickets at the school by calling 827-4700 on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Tickets are $8 for adults, $ 6 for students K-12, and pre school children are free.  Tickets will be a dollar higher at the door.

Join Camp Sacajawea for an Open House.

It’ll take place on April 27 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. They’ll have tours of the camp and make smores around our camp fire ring.  They’ll be accepting free will donations that day, and the funds go toward operating costs to help keep the camp open for our girls.  For information, email friendsofcampsacajawea@yahoo.com.

The community is invited to an afternoon musicale.

Spring on Broadway will be presented by the Broadway Presbyterian Church at 209 West Broadway (9th and Kentucky) on Sunday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m.  Admission is free.
