Sedalia's been around for quite a while now, and we've grown and changed over the decades. In some areas of town (I've seen a few in my neighborhood on the West side of town), there are some streets that aren't paved in the way most of us would see as normal.  They are brick paved streets.

I don't know if it's true, but from what I heard as a kid growing up, all the streets were paved that way to let horses move from one point to another more easily - and not get caught up in mud. So these streets might be over a hundred years old.

I never think about them much until I have to drive on one - and then it's an "interesting" experience. Most of the time it goes fine, I get past it, no biggie. Sometimes though, I forget, and get a little bit of a bump. It's not life threatening or even more than a mild disruption.

There are quite a few of these still around town, and it makes me wonder - should we keep them, or get rid of them? Part of me likes them, because they're a link to our past. It helps us remember not to get too ahead of ourselves. I like thinking about how I'm going down the same road that people did in the early 1900s just how they did it (well, apart from my thousands of pounds of metal versus their horse).  But then, I don't have to drive or walk on them every day, either.

What do you think? Do you like brick paved streets, or are they a problem?

Inquiringly yours,

Behka
