A further delay in the delivery of the City's automated solid waste disposal trucks resulted in the company agreeing to supply a loaner truck in the meantime, the Sedalia City Council learned Monday night.

While all the trash and recycle carts were delivered to citizens a couple of weeks ago, the missing piece of the recycling puzzle is delivery of the new trucks that are designed to pick up the 95-gallon carts (gray for trash and blue for recyclables). The trucks were originally supposed to be delivered in July, but that date has been pushed back several times.

The cost of the loaner, $12,000, will be paid for by the supplier. But the City does have to come up with a $1,500 refundable deposit in the meantime.

An ordinance accepting an agreement between the City of Sedalia and Big Truck Rental, LLC, a Florida limited liability company, was passed near the conclusion of Monday night's regular City Council meeting. Councilwoman Meagan Page was the Council's only no vote.

Public Works Director Brenda Ardrey and City Counselor Anne Gardner have been negotiating with the company, City Administrator Kelvin Shaw noted. The City's new recycling program is slated to begin the first week of November.
